We described aspects of spatial distribution, composition, and seasonality sea turtle species stranded in the Rio Grande do Norte Ceará States Basin ("Potiguar Basin"), northeastern Brazil, during a 7-yr period (between 2010 2016) evaluated related to anthropogenic impact. Our results revealed occurrence 5 found Chelonia mydas corresponded majority reported strandings.
Fibropapillomatosis is a threat to the survival of marine turtles, especially green turtles; therefore, studies on this neoplastic disease are considered conservation priority. Our goal was characterize incidence and spatial–temporal distribution fibropapillomatosis in Potiguar Basin, Rio Grande do Norte Ceará states, Brazil. This study based data obtained during daily observations by beach monitoring program from 2012 2015. A total 2688 comprising 5 species that occur Brazilian coast, were...
Abstract: This study monitored marine turtle nests in a region known as the Potiguar Basin, which stretches from northern of Rio Grande do Norte State (5°4’1.15” S, 36°4’36.41” W) to eastern Ceará (4°38’48.28” 37°32’52.08” Brazil. We collected data January 2011 December 2019 identify species sea turtles that spawn basin, analyze nesting spatial-temporal pattern and characteristics, record effects environmental anthropic factors on nests. A field team examined tracks signs. Turtle clutches...
Fibropapillomatosis (FP) is an infectious disease caused by Chelonid alphaherpesvirus 5 (ChHV5). Nevertheless, its clinical manifestations are considered multifactorial. Due to relevance, FP currently monitored in sea turtle populations the United States, Australia, Caribbean, and Brazil. Between 2000 2020, TAMAR Project/ Project Foundation analyzed prevalence of nine states oceanic islands along Brazilian coast, including Fernando de Noronha Archipelago (FNA), a historically FP-free area. A...
We documented the first reports of Ocelot, Leopardus pardalis (Linnaeus, 1758), in Rio Grande do Norte state, northeastern Brazil. In December 2014, one adult male was road-killed an Atlantic Forest remnant São Gonçalo Amarante municipality. Another three animals were killed by hunters Caatinga between 2012 and municipalities Lajes Santana Matos. These records provide important information about occurrence distribution conservation this mesocarnivore South America.
Abstract: Fish feeding habit associated to the morphology of their digestive tube can provide useful biological and ecological information. Between January December 2012, we examined 16 fish species discarded by trawl in Potiguar basin, northeastern Brazil, classified them into four groups according Alimentary Index - IAi. Our aims were to: (1) information on diet composition one represented each group (Opisthonema oglinum, Conodon nobilis, Larimus breviceps Sphoeroides testudineus), (2)...
The aortic arrangement is an important structure associated with the maintenance of homeostasis. Based on this information, study was conducted to describe collateral arteries arch Antillean manatee and define standard model for species. Three specimens, adult male, female a male neonate, all strandings coast state Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, were used. performed in Laboratory Morphophysiology Vertebrates Federal University where situ photographs taken demonstrate their topography....
Brazil has a coast that is threatened by economic activities and accelerated urbanisation process, causing ecosystem unbalance decreasing socioenvironmental quality. We analysed data collected from 2010 to 2019 during the Beach Monitoring Project in north-eastern quantify sea turtle strandings with signs of anthropogenic interaction, verify impact on strandings, analyse possible relation between socioeconomic conditions strandings. Anthropogenic interaction was classified into 12 categories...
Abstract Reports of intussusception in sea turtles are generally linked to marine debris ingestion; therefore, only a few cases the disease associated with parasitic infestations. The objective this study was describe necropsy findings first reported case colocolic green turtle Chelonia mydas, helminth Octangium sp. A juvenile female turtle, which registered and rescued by team from Cetaceans Project Costa Branca, State University Rio Grande do Norte, examined. animal died 1 d after being...
Morphological studies of the digestive tract are relevant to know biology and understand eating habits conserve species. Our objective was analyze macroscopically microscopically Antillean manatee (Trichechus manatus manatus). Samples were collected from 20 animals found dead stranded on coast northeastern Brazil or that died during rehabilitation process in captivity between July 1995 March 2017. The macroscopic analysis gastrointestinal carried out loco monitoring two necropsies. For...
