Liver peroxisomes were prepared by using a Percoll gradient in vertical rotor. beta-Oxidation was measured isolated from livers of rats fed on either high-(15% wt.) or low- (5% fat diets. The feeding high-fat diets gave 1.4-2.4-fold increase total liver peroxisomal beta-oxidation, and similar specific activity. A 1.5-4.5-fold seen the activity purified preparations. reasons for these increases are discussed.
Filtration rate (measured as clearance of algal cells) was measured at different temperatures in the sponge Halichondna panicea. An increase water temperature from 6 to 12 "C caused mean flltration 4.3 * 2.3 tlmes.Thls value higher than previously found for other marine ciliary suspension-feeding anlmals.Filtration also Haliclona urceolus by means a n indirect method In addition direct technique measuring pumping rate.It that 2 specles had near-identical rates, with maximum rates...
1. Rat liver peroxisomal fractions were isolated in iso-osmotic Percoll gradients by using vertical-rotor centrifugation. The obtained with rats given various dietary treatments characterized. 2. effect on beta-oxidation of feeding 15% wt. fat for 3 weeks was investigated. High-fat diets caused induction beta-oxidation, but rich very-long-chain mono-unsaturated fatty acids produced a more marked induction. 3. Peroxisomal induced can oxidize such acids. Trans-isomers are oxidized at rates...
ABSTRACT Textural properties of raw Atlantic salmon ( Salmo salar ) fillets from different origin were studied on locations the fillets. Three instrumental methods applied for evaluation textural properties. Two based puncture tests, using flat‐ended cylinder or spherical probes measuring hardness fillet. The third method was cutting fillet with a blade and shear force. Hardness force increased head to tail, location below dorsal fin found be most reliable. more sensitive than best suited...
1. The effect on rat liver peroxisomal beta-oxidation of feeding diets containing various amounts dietary oils was investigated. With increasing (5-25%, w/w) soya-bean oil an apparent, but not statistically significant, increase 1.5-fold found both in specific activity, and total activity. Increasing partially hydrogenated marine revealed a sigmoidal dose-response-curve, giving 4-6-fold the activity at 20% or more this diet. 2. Addition small to marine-oil diet had no decreased C20:3(5,8,11)...
Abstract The objective of this paper is to review the important quality parameters, standards, and simple tools or methods determine fresh Atlantic salmon (Saltno salar). Based on a literature interviews conducted in several companies throughout Europe, following parameters are particular importance: fat content, composition distribution fillet; color intensity texture, where firmness (hardness elasticity) gaping main for salmon. Other cited white stripes (connective tissue), bleeding, blood...
Groups of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fed diets with low or high fat content were stored on ice for up to 11 days in two separate experiments. After 4, 9 and storage the first experiment after 5, 8 second fish filleted by hand fillet gaping was evaluated. Texture properties studied using an Instron compression test. pH measured all fillets. In fillets from experiment, also autolytic protease activity measured. Diet affected texture properties. Fish diet exerted less resistance...
Atlantic salmon fry (4 g) were fed for 4 months on semi-synthetic diets containing fatty acid methyl esters of either 18:2 n-6, 18:3 n-3 or a mixture equal amounts 20:5 and 22:6 n-3. The different polyunsaturated acids added 0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.5, 1 2% (by dry weight). Increasing levels dietary up to 1% gave faster growth rates in fry, fish the seemed grow than only No significant effect rate was seen when level n-6 increased. Dietary inclusions reduced mortality salmon, while had no such...

ABSTRACT: Relevance of fat content and fillet shape Atlantic salmon for quality yield during smoking processing was investigated. Fat significantly influenced raw smoked products, although the interactions varied according to material used temperature. In fillets, increasing coincided with L* b*‐values decreasing holding capacity. salmon, also correlated positively a*‐value, smoke‐intensity‐/wood‐fire flavor fatty texture, negatively water capacity shear‐force. Weight loss salting decreased...
Atlantic salmon migrates from rivers to sea feed, grow and develop gonads before returning spawn in freshwater. The transition marine habitats is associated with dramatic changes the environment, including water salinity, exposure pathogens shift dietary lipid availability. Many physiology metabolism occur across this life-stage transition, but little known about molecular nature of these changes. Here, we use a long-term feeding experiment study transcriptional regulation gut liver both...
