Considering the emergence of high level aminoglycoside resistance (HLAR) in enterococci this study was undertaken to determine their status a rural setting. HLAR by disc diffusion and agar dilution, βlactamase nitrocefin vancomycin dilution determined 150 enterococcal isolates, as per NCCLS guidelines. Only two species, Enterococcus faecalis (85.5%) faecium (14.7%) were recovered, mostly from blood. Forty six percent showed HLAR. Multi drug concomitant strains βlactams quite high. None...

Purpose: Candida colonization in neonates results significant morbidity and mortality. The purpose of this study was to determine spp. preterm babies identify the risk factors. Methods: Swabs from oral, rectum, groin umblicus 103 100 term were obtained within 24 hours birth, day three, five, seven thereafter every week till neonate admitted neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). also collected mother’s vagina prior delivery. Twice month, air NICU sampled by settle plate swabs hands health...

Engyodontium album is a rare and an unusual human pathogen. It common inhabitant of waste moist material frequently isolated from substrates such as paper, jute, linen painted walls. This fungus grew within 3 days on SDA with chloramphenicol corneal scrapping 70-year-old male farmer history trauma by unknown vegetative matter. The can be confused Tritirachium sp Beauveria sp.

Colletotrichum dematium has been rarely reproted from India before. The present case, a farmer, developed peripheral corneal ulcer five days following trauma with plant. At presentation his visual acuity was 6/60 (unaided) and 6/24P pinhole. Slit lamp fluorescent stain examination revealed paracentral irregular margins, stromal infiltration multiple epithelial defects. Microbiological of samples confirmed the initial diagnosis fungal fungus identified as C.dematium. Patient treated topical...

To study the possible importance of mycobacterial ES-31 serine protease for bacterial cell growth, effect and metalloprotease inhibitors, anti-tubercular drugs such as isoniazid anti-ES-31 antibody, was evaluated on in vitro bacilli axenic macrophage cultures. Serine inhibitors pefabloc, 3,4 dichloroisocoumarin, phenyl methyl sulfonyl fluoride (PMSF) ethylene diamine tetracetic acid (EDTA) 1,10 phenanthroline inhibited 65-92% activity vitro. Isoniazid showed 95% inhibition protease. These...

Purpose: Study was conducted in a rural tertiary care hospital with purpose to demonstrate the biofilm forming abilities of C. albicans isolated from cases vulvovaginal candidiasis and asymptomatic carriers. Material Methods: identified by standard laboratory techniques. Biofilm formation vitro tested using 96 well microtitre plate method crystal violet staining. Results: Overall rate Candida isolation study subjects 40%. 56% that controls 24%. predominant species (71.45% 91.67%). seen 40%...

Introduction: Pityriasis Versicolor (PV) a commonly encountered superficial mycosis is mild, chronic infection of the stratum corneum. Malassezia species are lipid dependent yeast that found on human skin and associated with PV dandruff. Aim: To study distribution in cases Dandruff. Materials Methods: A tertiary care rural hospital based cross-sectional was undertaken. Skin scrapings were collected cultured Sabouraud’s Dextrose Agar (SDA) overlaid olive oil modified Dixon agar (mDA). The...
