A remarkable percentage of acute gastroenteritis cases remain etiologically undiagnosed. The aim the study was to determine prevalence common and emerging enteric viruses, such as novel human astroviruses, among undiagnosed samples from children with gastroenteritis. Epidemiological studies for astroviruses are still scarce. Stool collected over two consecutive winter seasons (2016–2017) in Spain, which were negative bacteria, rotavirus, adenovirus by routine diagnostics screened real-time...

Abstract Background Several countries have recently reported the detection of ESBL-producing Shigella sonnei associated with transmission among MSM. In a previous study by our group, 2.8% spp. obtained from MSM in Barcelona between 2015 and 2019 were ESBL producers. Objectives To describe characterize emerging sexual detected 2020 to 2021 Barcelona, elucidating their connectivity contemporaneous other countries. Results From 2021, we identified that MSM, 68% S. Abstract We report a case of typhoid fever in traveler returning to Spain from Guatemala that was caused by Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi which produced an extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL). This finding demonstrates the presence ESBL-producing S. ser. strains Americas. Enhanced surveillance is necessary prevent further spread.

ABSTRACT We report 2 cases of recurrent Campylobacter coli enteritis caused by macrolide- and fluoroquinolone-resistant strains in patients with hypogammaglobulinemia, successfully treated a prolonged course fosfomycin-tromethamine no side effects. Fosfomycin-tromethamine may be feasible alternative therapy for species resistant to first-line drugs.

Novel human astroviruses (HAstV) were discovered 10 years ago and have been associated with fatal cases of central nervous system infections. Their role in gastroenteritis is controversial, as they identified symptomatic asymptomatic subjects. The aim the study was to investigate novel HAstV a case-control including pediatric population Spain over one-year period. We included stool samples from patients negative results for viruses screened by routine diagnostics, control subjects who sought...

We have tested 250 strains belonging to 15 species of clinically important dermatophytes and Scopulariopsis against ten antifungal drugs using an agar diffusion method (NeoSensitabs™, Rosco, Taastrup, Denmark). Some the experimental factors were adapted dermatophyte development, such as temperature (28 vs. 35°C) time incubation (2–5 days 21–74 h). The antifungals used are itraconazole, ketoconazole, miconazole, clotrimazole, sertaconazole, terbinafine, tioconazole,...
