We examined whether an additive treatment with angiotensin receptor blocker, olmesartan, reduces the mortality and morbidity in hypertensive patients chronic heart failure (CHF) treated angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, β-blockers, or both. In this prospective, randomized, open-label, blinded endpoint study, a total of 1147 symptomatic CHF (mean age 66 years, 75% male) were randomized to addition olmesartan (n = 578) baseline therapy vs. control 569). The primary was composite...

Rationale: The effects of telemedicine on adherence in patients with obstructive sleep apnea long-term continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) use have never been investigated. Objectives: To examine a intervention CPAP users. Methods: In prospective, randomized, multicenter noninferiority trial conducted 17 centers across Japan, who had used for >3 months and were receiving face-to-face follow-up by physicians every 1 or 2 randomized coordinating center blind manner to the following three...

It is well known that the prevalence of sleep disordered breathing (SDB) increased in patients with obesity or metabolic comorbidities. However, way which SDB increases relation to comorbidities according severity remains unclear. This cross-sectional study evaluated 7713 community participants using nocturnal oximetry ≥2 nights. was assessed by 3% oxygen desaturation index corrected for duration obtained wrist actigraphy (acti-ODI3%). defined acti-ODI3%. Obesity as body mass ≥25 kg·m −2 ....

While nocturnal hypoxia caused by sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) can result in polycythemia, the association between erythrocyte values and SDB may vary sex menopausal status. This study aimed to evaluate correlation of variables with a large cohort categorized status from general population. Sleep duration were assessed community residents using wearable actigraph pulse oximeter. The Actigraph-adjusted 3% oxygen saturation index (Acti-3% ODI) was calculated correcting time measured...

Abstract Objective Sleep restfulness is closely associated with mortality. Thus, it an important sleep-related symptom in the general population. However, rarely evaluated patients obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) syndrome. The present study examined importance of OSA receiving continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy. Materials and Methods We administered questionnaires, which included items such as subjective duration restfulness, to 775 CPAP was rated using a 5-point Likert-type...

OBJECTIVE Left ventricular remodeling occurs immediately after MI, involving structural changes in noninfarcted segment. However, the residual left pump function NIDDM patients acute MI has not been clarified. The purpose of this study was to evaluate difference process between and nondiabetic patients. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS regional EF images obtained by radionuclide angiography were investigated 20 29 3rd wk MI. RESULTS Regional area P/V had a significant hyperbolic relation with EDV...

Abstract Background To broaden the utility of heart rate variability (HRV) in clinical medicine and mass screening, results based on shorter electrocardiogram (ECG) recordings require validation with those standard 5‐minute recordings. We investigated association between HRV variables obtained from ECGs than 5 minutes. Methods Twenty‐two participants aged 20–69 years underwent resting ECG supine position natural breathing. Spectral analysis using MemCalc method was performed to calculate...

The extended cytoplasmic processes from megakaryocytes (MK) are believed to be structural intermediates between MK and platelets. We could observe differentiation of purified rat CFU-MK toward mature form processes. Recombinant interleukin-3 (IL-3), human erythropoietin (Epo), interleukin-6 (IL-6) each was able stimulate process formation although they varied somewhat in their potential. Electron microscopic observations showed that these were very similar those so far reported. combination...
