A jet airliner with 54 persons aboard was delayed on the ground for three hours because of engine failure during a takeoff attempt. Most passengers stayed airplane delay. Within 72 hours, per cent became ill symptoms cough, fever, fatigue, headache, sore throat and myalgia. One passenger, apparent index case, airplane, clinical attack rate among others varied amount time spent aboard. Virus antigenically similar to A/Texas/1/77(H3N2) isolated from 8 31 cultured, 20 22 tested had serologic...
We have developed a new Monte Carlo code called ATMOCOSMICS based on GEANT 4 that simulates the interaction of cosmic rays with Earth's atmosphere. The allows to compute flux secondaries (e - , e + protons, neutrons, gammas, muons, pions, …) at user-defined atmospheric depths and/or altitudes. Profiles energy deposited by shower particles into atmosphere vs depth altitude can be calculated. present examples simulation results obtained code, and compare them experimental data.
Abstract During opening of a new ocean, magma intrudes into the surrounding sedimentary basins. Heat provided by intrusions matures host rock, creating metamorphic aureoles potentially releasing large amounts hydrocarbons. These hydrocarbons may migrate to seafloor in hydrothermal vent complexes sufficient volumes trigger global warming, e.g., during Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM). Mound structures at top buried observed seismic data off Norway were previously interpreted as...
Abstract. A total of more than 140 000 kg small-magnitude rockfall deposits was measured in eight collectors altogether 940 m2 size between 1999–2003 below a 400–600 m high rock face the Reintal, German Alps. Measurements were conducted with temporal resolution up to single days attribute intensity observed triggering events. Precipitation assessed by rain gauge and high-resolution precipitation radar. Intense rainstorms triggered previously unreported intensities 300 g/(m2h) that we term...
Neutrino detectors participate in the indirect search for fundamental constituents of dark matter (DM) form weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs). In WIMP scenarios, candidate DM can pair-annihilate into Standard Model products, yielding considerable fluxes high-energy neutrinos. A detector like ANTARES, located Northern Hemisphere, is able to perform a competitive looking towards Galactic Centre, where high density thought accumulate. Both this directional information and spectral...
Schreeder, M.T., T. R. Bender (CDC, 225 Eagle St, Anchorage, AK 99501), B. J. McMahon, M. Moser, L. Murphy, Sheller, W. L Heyward, D. Hall and E. Maynard. Prevalence of hepatitis B in selected Alaskan Eskimo villages. Am J Epidemiol 1983;118:543–9. Sera collected 1973–1975 from 3053 residents 12 villages were tested for evidence virus infection. Overall, surface antigen (HBsAg) was found 6.4% those tested. Evidence infection (positive HBsAg or antibody to (anti-HBs)) varied considerably by...
Addressing the origin of astrophysical neutrino flux observed by IceCube is paramount importance. Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) are among few sources capable achieving required energy to contribute such through p$\gamma$ interactions. In this work, ANTARES data have been used search for upward going muon neutrinos in spatial and temporal coincidence with 784 GRBs occurred from 2007 2017. For each GRB, expected has calculated framework internal shock model impact lack knowledge on majority source...
A search for astrophysical point-like neutrino sources using the data collected by ANTARES detector between January 29, 2007 and December 31, 2017 is presented. likelihood stacking method used to assess significance of an excess muon neutrinos inducing track-like events in correlation with location a list possible sources. Different sets objects are tested analysis: a) sub-sample \textit{Fermi} 3LAC catalog blazars, b) jet-obscured AGN population, c) sample soft gamma-ray selected radio...
We developed a CANDLES-III system to study the neutrino-less double beta (0$\nu\beta\beta$) decay of $^{48}$Ca. The proposed employs 96 CaF$_{2}$ scintillation crystals (305 kg) with natural Ca ($^{\rm nat.}$Ca) isotope which corresponds 350\,g External backgrounds were rejected using 4$\pi$ active shield liquid scintillator surrounding CaF$_2$ crystals. internal caused by radioactive impurities within can be reduced effectively through analysis signal pulse shape. analyzed data obtained in...
This letter presents a combined measurement of the energy spectra atmospheric $ν_e$ and $ν_μ$ in range between $\sim$100 GeV $\sim$50 TeV with ANTARES neutrino telescope. The analysis uses 3012 days detector livetime period 2007--2017, selects 1016 neutrinos interacting (or close to) instrumented volume detector, yielding shower-like events (mainly from $ν_e+\overline ν_e$ charged current plus all neutral interactions) starting track $ν_μ+ \overline ν_μ$ interactions). contamination by muons...
We describe the design and performance of a position sensitive scintillator detector developed for neutron measurements. Several these detectors are to be used in assembly Fast Neutron Imaging Telescope (FNIT), an instrument with imaging energy measurement capabilities, neutrons 2-20 MeV range. FNIT was initially conceived study solar as candidate Inner Heliospheric Sentinels (IHS) program under formulation at NASA. It is now being adapted locate Special Nuclear Material (SNM) homeland...
Monte Carlo simulations are a unique tool to check the response of detector and monitor its performance. For deep-sea neutrino telescope, variability environmental conditions that can affect behaviour data acquisition system must be considered, in addition reliable description active parts features physics events, order produce realistic set simulated events. In this paper, software tools used cosmic ray signatures telescope strategy developed represent time evolution natural environment...
