We studied an influence of continuous terahertz (THz) radiation (0.12 - 0.18 THz, average power density 3.2 mW/cm2) on a rat glial cell line. A dose-dependent cytotoxic effect THz is demonstrated. After 1 minute exposure relative number apoptotic cells increased in 1.5 times, after 3 minutes it doubled. This result confirms the concept biological hazard intense radiation. Diagnostic applications can be restricted by and time.
This manuscript describes harmonic generation in semiconductor superlattices, starting from a nonequilibrium Green's functions input to relaxation rate--type analytical approximations for the Boltzmann equation which imperfections structure lead asymmetric current flow and scattering processes under forward reverse bias. The resulting current-voltage curves predicted consequences on generation, notably development of even harmonics, are good agreement with experiments. Significant output...

Free online spectroscopy databases were used identification substances. results molecular profiles mixtures products two varieties barley, pearl...
The work is devoted to applications of terahertz spectroscopic technique and methods for ecological monitoring. Preliminary quantum-chemical calculations rotational spectra some chlorine-containing substances studied were carried out. measurements the absorption lines spectrum a number (dichloromethane, chloroform) out in 2-mm range using spectrometers developed by authors. substances, revealed during investigations, can be used
We report on the phase locking of a 3.4 THz third-order distributed feedback quantum cascade laser (QCL) using room temperature GaAs/AlAs superlattice diode as both frequency multiplier and an internal harmonic mixer. A signal-to-noise level 60 dB is observed in intermediate signal between 18th 190.7 GHz reference source 3433 QCL. phase-lock loop with 7 MHz bandwidth results QCL emission that 96% locked to source. characterize electrical tuning mechanisms show dependence these can prevent...
Abstract A THz nonstationary high-resolution spectrometer based on semiconductor superlattice multipliers is applied to investigate the dynamics of urine composition for cancer patients treated with chemotherapy. The molecular healthy volunteers and was compared contrasted. We have found a set nitriles that either appeared after chemotherapy or increased in content, which are expected as result bio-chemical damage liver. While no can be detected at this stage by existing clinical methods,...
A superconducting integrated receiver (SIR) comprises all of the elements needed for heterodyne detection on a single chip. Light weight and low power consumption combined with nearly quantum-limited sensitivity wide tuning range local oscillator make SIR perfect candidate many practical applications. For first time, we demonstrated capabilities technology remote operation under harsh environmental conditions spectroscopy at atmospheric limb sounding board high-altitude balloon. Recently,...
We apply a hybrid nonequilibrium Green’s functions and relaxation rate approximation approach to investigate frequency multiplication in the gigahertz terahertz range delivering results good agreement with experimental data for different input frequencies. A discussion of current limitation housing designs superlattices is given, based on simple model local electric field comparison measured powers delivered by backward wave oscillator.
Abstract Optical nonlinearities are of perpetual importance, notably connected with emerging new materials. However, they difficult to exploit in the gigahertz–terahertz (GHz–THz) range at room temperature and using low excitation power. Here, we present a clear-cut theoretical experimental demonstration real time, power, control GHz–THz nonlinearities. The nonlinear susceptibility concept, successful most materials, cannot be used here show contrast, complex interplay between applied...
Significance: The creation of fundamentally new approaches to storing various biomaterial and estimation parameters, without irreversible loss any biomaterial, is a pressing challenge in clinical practice. We present technology for studying samples diabetic non-diabetic human blood plasma the terahertz (THz) frequency range. Aim: main idea our study propose method diagnosis these THz Approach: Venous from patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus conditionally healthy participants was...
We propose a new method of molecular microwave spectroscopy together with analysis resonance line shapes, based on the fast passage effect. The effect is excitation coherent spontaneous radiation tested molecules using frequency sweep over absorption line. show that shape can be reconstructed from received detector signal use Hilbert and Fourier transformations. find sensitivity spectrometer higher than an ordinary pulsed Fourier-transform spectrometer. proposed useful tool for gas mixtures.
The results of a detailed study the microwave linewidth Nb-AlO/sub x/-Nb flux flow oscillators (FFO) are presented. dependence FFO on junctions parameters has been measured by using an improved technique based harmonic mixing in frequency range 250-600 GHz. Experimental data compared with theoretical estimates to evaluate influence possible mechanisms responsible for broadening linewidth. origins increased at transition from resonant "pure" flux-flow regime discussed. measurements locked...

Stochastic fields can play a 'constructive' role in their interaction with quantum systems. In this paper, we demonstrate that the phase-diffusion field (PDF) terahertz range (THz) induces macroscopic polarization molecular gas. We explain observed effect using simple model which PDF is treated as series of ultrashort pulses regular signal, resulting transient absorption The experimental investigation carried out ammonia, and generated by an oscillator based on stacks Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8 intrinsic...
