The excessive use and disposal of plastic packaging materials have drawn increasing concerns from the society because detrimental effect on environment ecosystems. As most widely used fruit packing material, polyethylene (PE) film is not suitable for long-term preservation some tropical fruits, such as mangos, due to its inferior gas permeability. Cellulose based can be made renewable resources biodegradable environmental-friendly, which makes it a promising alternative PE material. In this...

The nutritional composition of banana flowers two cultivars [cvs. Baxijiao (AAA) and Paradisical (AAB)] grown in Hainan China has been studied. Flower samples were collected extracted according to methods Association Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC). Results showed that contained abundant dietary fiber (4.96-5.74 g/100g) proteins (1.62-2.07 g/100 g). major amino acids are glycine, leucine, alanine, aspartic acid. Lysine had a lowest chemical score 64% among the essential acids. In both...

The use of α-glucosidase inhibitors is considered to be an effective strategy in the treatment diabetes. Using a bioassay-guided fractionation technique, five Bacillus stearothermophilus were isolated from flowers Musa spp. (Baxijiao). NMR spectroscopy analysis they identified as vanillic acid (1), ferulic (2), β-sitosterol (3), daucosterol (4) and 9-(4′-hydroxyphenyl)-2-methoxyphenalen-1-one (5). half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values compounds 1–5 2004.58, 1258.35, 283.67,...

This study evaluated the physicochemical properties of oils extracted from steam-exploded camellia seed (Camellia oleifera Abel.). Steam pressure, resident time, fatty acid composition, total phenolics, tocopherol, squalene, and sterol contents, volatile compounds were determined. 1H NMR FTIR spectra performed for structure oil. has found highest yield oil was 86.56% obtained when steam explosion pretreatment at 1.6 MPa 30 s. Oil by exhibited favorable stronger antioxidant activities...

Extraction methods directly affect pectin extraction yield and physicochemical structural characteristics. The effects of acid (AE), ultrasonic-assisted (UA), steam explosion pretreatment combined with (SEA) SEA (USEA) on the yield, structure, properties passion fruit were studied. UA was 6.5%, equivalent to that AE at 60 min (5.3%), but emulsion stability poor. obtained by USEA improved stability. Compared UA, it had higher protein content (0.62%), rhamnogalacturonan I (18.44%) lower...

Biochar is a low-cost adsorbent for sorptive removal of antibiotics from wastewater, but the adsorption efficiency needs to be improved. In this study, coconut-shell biochar was activated with KOH improve and magnetically modified FeCl 3 enable recycling. The amount concentration were optimized reduce pollution production cost. KOH-activated -magnetized gave good sulfonamide antibiotic (SA) removal. maximum capacities sulfadiazine, sulfamethazine sulfamethoxazole 294.12, 400.00 454.55 mg g...

Summary The activities of four natural phenolics, kaempferol, galangin, carnosic acid and polydatin in scavenging free radicals, inhibiting advanced glycation end‐product ( AGE ) formation, α‐amylase α‐glucosidase trapping methylglyoxal MGO ), were evaluated this study. Carnosic galangin had the highest activity radicals. Kaempferol greatest preventing bovine serum albumin BSA against reducing glycated proteins. Polydatin performance to reduce reaction. However, there was no significant...
