Bovine leukemia virus (BLV), a retrovirus that is widespread worldwide, causes enzootic bovine leukosis (EBL), B-cell leukemia/lymphoma with poor prognosis ultimately results in death. In Japan, the number of cattle infected this increasing, and it estimated more than 35% are currently infected. Since no vaccines or treatments against BLV infection available, important to establish method early diagnosis for EBL reduce economic losses caused by disposal where large expensive beef raised. This study investigated the seroprevalence of bovine leukemia virus (BLV) in beef breeding cattle Ibaraki, revealing a 43.0% with bimodal distribution farms classified as either BLV-negative or very-highly infected. These results underscore need to implement appropriate strategies for infected farms. In particular, determining culling prioritization is absolutely necessary. It was revealed that effective control difficult based on types operation herd size. On other hand,...

Enzootic bovine leukosis (EBL) is typically observed in cattle older than 3 years, but some cases of onset younger years have been reported Japan. BoLA-DRB3 polymorphisms are associated with susceptibility to EBL onset. However, little known about the relationship between and young cattle. In present study, we performed genotyping 59 (25 Holstein-Friesian 34 Japanese Black) compared results those 69 (38 31 Black). Abstract In this study, we compared the effects of different bovine leukemia virus (BLV) strains and lymphocyte antigen ( BoLA ) -DRB3 alleles in cattle with enzootic leukosis (EBL) aged either <3 years or ≥3 years. The frequency infection BLV belonging to group A B-1 EBL was significantly higher than that years, regardless which BoLA-DRB3 allele present. This suggests contributes more strongly development young presence early-EBL-onset susceptibility alleles.
