This paper presents the results of forensic assessments on reinforced concrete half-joint beams tested within literature through application nonlinear finite element analyses. The software package ATENA Science was utilised, in which critical evaluations were conducted into accuracy predicting response half-joints with inadequate reinforcement detailing. It shown that load capacity could be predicted accurately, an average experimental-over-predicted ratio 1.04 and a coefficient variation...

Three reinforced concrete beams, one with no shear reinforcement and two others ratios of 0.4% 1.1%, were tested to investigate the influence stirrup spacing on mode failure, overall strength ductility. The results show that beam closely-spaced failed in a ductile manner, whereas other beams large exhibited only small measure ductility brittle manner. importance provisions maximum is highlighted ensure adequate anchorage for stirrups prevent premature failure occur. application non-contact...
The effect of loss ignition, specific gravity, fineness, surface area and soluble fly ash to compressive strength geopolymer paste were studied. Six ashes from two different sources time collection evaluated. Sodium hydroxide sodium silicate used as alkali activator. Concentration mass ratio fixed 14M one respectively. result indicated that the improvement in was more influenced by content ash. Soluble greatly affected compare cement with 20% replacement.
Providing good ductility has become research interest in the area of seismic resistant structures. Particularly Reinforced Concrete (RC) structure, such is commonly achieved by providing confinement. Confinement can be conventionally provided internal stirrups, and also additional external elements which are used as strengthening or retrofit works. Attaching steel collars on concrete columns one many techniques enhancing ductility. In this study, performance retrofitting method investigated...
This paper presents the application of a low-cost digital image correlation (DIC) system for automated crack mapping. The employed makes use conventional camera, remote recording controller, and an open-source MATLAB software Ncorr. To showcase potential proposed system, two case studies involving general structural material testing were undertaken. In first series, DIC was used to study fracture processes in reinforced concrete beam investigate influence key input parameters on spatial...
The work presented in this paper forms part of a wider research programme being undertaken on the development low-carbon cementitious mortars for 3D printing applications. Specifically, investigates potential ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS) as partial replacement Portland cement. Five mortar mixes with varying water/binder (w/b) ratios (0.35 to 0.45) were tested, and investigate their pumpability buildability, series wall-like specimens printed using custom-built printer under...
A new reinforcement system, Welded Wire Fabric (WWF), is proposed to perform the function of transverse steel in reinforced concrete columns. WWF made from cold-drawn wires arranged two orthogonal directions and prefabricated a production line. eliminates some detailing problems inherent traditional rebar construction resulting easier faster construction, better economy quality control. An experimental investigation on behavior square columns confined by was carried out. The confinement...
A low-cost digital image correlation system is used to visualize the formation and propagation of concrete cracking in a reinforced beam. The employed comprises an ordinary camera, remote recording controller (a smartphone) freely-available, open-source software package Ncorr. In this paper, application demonstrated obtain comprehensive time-lapse longitudinal strain fields developing before after onset shear cracking, thus allowing one appreciate mechanisms failure beam fully. It shown that...
In this paper, further analysis from the result of spun pile test under reverse flexural load and combined with two levels constant axial load, 40 tons (0.08fc’Ag) 80 (0.16fc’Ag), is presented. The related to confinement behavior concrete section using low amount spiral reinforcement. It shown that strain readings reinforcement indicate a subtle contribution in terms mechanism hollow pile. addition, it evident seems be compressed when resists compression due load. crushing at ultimate...
Abstract Various analytical models available in the literature for confinement of concrete by conventional rectilinear ties and welded wire fabric are studied. These applied to specimens tested authors as well other investigators predict results. Experimental results compared with predicted various models. It is concluded that none could accurately stress-strain curves full range experimental data considered this study. Most were able peak strength but failed satisfactorily associated strain...
Chloride ingress is one of the major causes durability problems in reinforced concrete structures. This research focused to investigate chloride penetration process through subjected wetting and drying cycle. used 150 x mm normal prism sample with a 40 cover. Three configurations this study effect period penetration. The result indicated that concentration depth were highly influenced by duration drying. Based on experimental result, exposed 5 hours 3 has highest compared other configuration.
This paper presents the application of a smeared fixed crack approach for nonlinear finite element analysis shear-critical reinforced concrete beams. The experimental data was adopted from tests undertaken on twelve beams by Bresler and Scordelis in 1963, duplicate Vecchio Shim 2004. To this end, all were modeled 3D using software package ATENA-GiD. In modeling, behaviors represented fracture-plastic constitutive models, which formulated within crack/crush band approaches. applicability...
This paper presents a review of the proposed design for assessing tensile capacity simply truss framing system cold-formed steel. A series connection tests were made to investigate connections by its deformation and load caring capacity. Furthermore, Screw compared adhesive connections. Those created 1 screw 3 installed using 8 mm screw. On other hand, 50%, 75% 100% percentage adhesive, i.e., A3M ASK also added be evaluated. As result, experimental condition was carried out developing model...
Confinement in concrete column has been well known to improve its strength and ductility. Up present, traditional transverse steel is still used as internal confinement column. Many researchers have proposed various stress-strain relationships for confined under different conditions. In general, all these models suggested increases both compressive The improved ductility characterized by the increase of ultimate strain flatter post-peak descending branch curve. Recently, research on...
