A simple method is described for the electrofusion of plant protoplasts. Protoplasts were aggregated in a radio-frequency field (10 V RMS, 0.5 MHz) 15–30 s with an inter-electrode distance J mm. Energy spectra of protons and helium nuclei in the primary cosmic rays were measured above 1 TeV a series balloon flights emulsion chambers. SUMMARY Neither tobacco mesophyll protoplasts nor leaves could be infected with wild type brome mosaic virus (BMV wt) or its RNA, but both were when inoculated 50 µg/ml more of a variant BMV V5). This is about 100 × the amount required for efficient infection by cowpea chlorotic mottle (CCMV). Poly-l-ornithine stimulated V5, was not essential. V5.
