To evaluate the risk factors for and frequency of an acute intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation (spike) after phacoemulsification in patients with glaucoma.Academic glaucoma clinics operating rooms.Retrospective case series.Charts consecutive without previous incisional surgery having by same surgeon between August 1996 July 2012 were reviewed to obtain demographic information, preoperative medications, severity treatment measures, intraoperative course, postoperative outcomes. A IOP spike...
Bimatoprost implant 10 µg is an intracameral, biodegradable that slowly releases bimatoprost to lower intraocular pressure (IOP). This study was designed evaluate safety and the duration of IOP-lowering effect after single as-needed repeat administration in patients with open-angle glaucoma (OAG) ocular hypertension (OHT). interim analysis ongoing, prospective, open-label, multicenter OAG or OHT who are inadequately managed topical medication for reasons other than efficacy. rescue treatment...
One barrier to patient adherence with chronic topical glaucoma treatment is an inadequate amount of medication available between prescription refills. We examined the self-reported prevalence early exhaustion eye drops prior a scheduled refill, and associated risk factors. This cross-sectional survey was performed at University-based clinical practice. Glaucoma patients University Washington who were experienced drop application on steady regimen self-administered in both eyes took time...
To examine the microstructural changes in inner nuclear layer (INL) and ganglion cell (GCL) a primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) subject at 2 timepoints, 4 months apart. This case-control study (1 POAG 1 normal control) used single cell, 3-dimensional volumetric imaging capability of an adaptive optics-optical coherence tomography-scanning laser ophthalmoscopy system to retina. At area greatest glaucomatous change [3-degrees temporal (T), 3-degrees inferior (I), right eye], GCL was greatly...
IMPORTANCEIn the past, resident physicians have provided care to indigent patients under supervision of experienced physicians.General consensus exists regarding higher surgical costs patient at teaching hospitals. No study has examined outcomes or cost basis for providing health an underserved population.OBJECTIVES To evaluate visual results in uninsured undergoing cataract surgery performed by surgeons a single institution and determine cost-effectiveness care.DESIGN AND SETTING A...
To examine refractive outcomes after phacoemulsification in eyes with prior trabeculectomy.Retrospective observational case-control study METHODS:: Comparison of glaucoma patients undergoing cataract surgery trabeculectomy (study group) a matched group medically controlled (control group). Laser interferometry was used to obtain ocular biometry. We measured the difference between expected and actual postoperative refraction using third-generation fourth-generation intraocular lens (IOL)...
Wilson’s disease (WD), also known as hepatolenticular degeneration, is a rare autosomal recessive condition of excess copper accumulation that most commonly associated with hepatic, neurologic, psychiatric, and ocular manifestations. While Kayser-Fleischer rings sunflower cataracts are well in WD, visual impairment very rare. We report the case 20-year-old female who presented acute liver failure monocular vision loss. WD was found to be cause her decreased vision.
Background. Optic disk hemorrhage is known to be a risk factor for glaucoma progression. Cataract surgery by phacoemulsification results in large intraocular pressure fluctuations. We aim investigate whether associated with optic disc patients glaucoma. Methods. This retrospective review of consecutive university clinic based undergoing alone, at least 3 visits the year before and 5 following phacoemulsification. The presence was evaluated slit lamp biomicroscopy each visit prior Results....
BACKGROUND: Robotic prostatectomy and robotic hysterectomy require steep Trendelenburg positioning. Many authors documented significant increases in intraocular pressure (IOP) during Trendelenburg. However, the long-term biological effect of a increase IOP on structural functional ocular system is unknown. This study examines visual acuity, retinal nerve fiber layer thickness (RNFLT), ganglion cell complex (GCC) 52 patients without preexisting disease both genders before 3 months after their...
To report the outcomes of combined Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) placement, intravitreal fluocinolone acetonide implant, and cataract extraction procedure in treatment chronic noninfectious uveitis.Retrospective case series patients with uveitis who underwent AGV implantation, a single surgical session performed at 1 institution from January 2009 to November 2014. Outcome measures included intraocular pressure (IOP) medication use. Secondary outcome visual acuity, systemic anti-inflammatory...
To report an unusual case of ectopia lentis and angle closure in a patient with chronic eye rubbing.A 57-year-old male history poorly controlled atopic dermatitis presented right pain, decreased vision, intraocular pressure (IOP) 55 mm Hg. He had no past ocular disease reported trauma. did rubbing.Best corrected visual acuity was hand motions. The examination revealed severe keratoconjunctivitis both eyes, microcystic corneal edema the eye, 2+ nuclear sclerosis eyes. Gonioscopy showed...
We report a positive outcome of postcataract endophthalmitis caused by Enterobacter cloacae, which has previously resulted in poor outcomes endophthalmitis. A 67-year-old man underwent uncomplicated cataract surgery. On the morning postoperative day (POD) #1, he had significant anterior chamber inflammation without pain, hypopyon, or vitritis but then rapidly developed hypopyon and worsening visual acuity. He tap inject with vancomycin ceftazidime was prescribed topical steroids antibiotics...
Hypotony maculopathy is a condition that may result in visual deterioration from choroidal folds or optic disc edema. Optic edema can altered translaminar pressure gradients (lowered intraocular pressure, increased cerebrospinal fluid orbital pressure). We report case of bilateral patient with glaucoma and thyroid-related orbitopathy. The patient's was initially presumed to be secondary her orbitopathy, but persisted after decompression. Ultimately, the right eye resolved trabeculectomy...
