Recent advances in the synthesis of macrocycles with musk scent via catalytic olefin metathesis are presented a particular emphasis on advantages offered by technology. The review includes short historical background about musks and to introduce subject. High yielded and selective synthesis of macrocyclic unsaturated musk compounds from unbiased dienes using reactive distillation at high concentration.
Three new quinone‐containing Hoveyda‐type complexes have been synthesised and fully characterised. Their ability to suppress undesired double‐bond migration along the carbon chain during metathesis reactions was examined. It proved that these catalysts decrease amounts of side‐products with a shifted double bond in reaction mixture.
Synthesis of five Electron Withdrawing Group (EWG) activated Hoveyda-Grubbs' catalysts containing thioperfluoroalkyl, sulfone and ketone functions is reported.
