Water drops become charged after sliding on a polymer surface. The variation of the detected charge with pH and ionic strength are compatible OH− or H+ transfer from drop to polymer. These changes accounted for by thermodynamic model.
We report an investigation of the mechanisms involved in formation nanostructured epoxy thermosetting systems using highly epoxidized poly(styrene-b-isoprene-b-styrene) (eSIS) block copolymer at three different stages curing process. In uncured state, polystyrene (PS) blocks self-assembled sphere-like nanodomains with a short-range order, while polyisoprene (ePI) subchains were initially miscible precursors. As reaction proceeded, PS became gradually distorted switching to bigger and less...
Two methods, the first physical and other chemical, were investigated to modify surface roughness of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) films. The method consisted dispersing multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) magnetic cobalt ferrites (CoFe₂O₄) prior thermal cross-linking, curing composite system in presence a uniform field H. chemical was based on exposing films bromine vapours then UV-irradiating. characterizing techniques included scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive...
Dengue virus (DENV), a member of the family Flaviviridae, is at present most widespread causative agent human viral disease transmitted by mosquitoes. Despite increasing incidence this pathogen, there are no antiviral drugs or vaccines currently available for treatment prevention. In previous screening assay, we identified group N-allyl acridones as effective inhibitors. Here, activity and mode action targeted to RNA replication one active DENV-2 inhibitors was further characterized.The...
Controlling nanodomain morphology of nanostructured epoxy thermosets is critical to modulate the mechanical properties cross-linked matrix. In this contribution, we demonstrate that can be achieved by using a suitable block copolymer containing an soluble with ability react toward system during curing. For purpose designed epoxidized poly(styrene-b-isoprene-b-styrene) incorporating amine-reactive functionalities (eSIS-AEP) in as modifier for system, which allowed formation controlled...
Here, a mathematical model is presented, which accounts for the dependence of surface electrical charge density (σ) on pH and concentration added salts (Cs), generated when water drop rolls or slides hydrophobic polymer, process known as liquid-polymer contact electrification (LPCE). The same was successfully applied to fit isotherms ξ-potential function pH, reported in literature by other authors water-poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE) interfaces. Hence, σ ξ described using concept:...
The inhibitory effect of several thiosemicarbazones (TSCs), synthesized from aromatic ketones and terpenones, their heterocyclic thiadiazoline (TDZ) derivatives, was investigated against Junin virus (JUNV), an arenavirus agent Argentine haemorrhagic fever. From the 25 compounds tested, six belonging to TSC group were found be selective inhibitors JUNV, with EC 50 values determined by a yield inhibition assay in range 3.4–12.5 μM, selectivity indices greater than 10. By contrast, most TDZs...
Abstract To be used as templates for nanostructured thermosets, a commercial poly(styrene‐ b ‐isoprene‐ ‐styrene) (SIS) block copolymer (BCP) was epoxidized by three different epoxidation procedures. An exhaustive analysis of methodologies using metal catalyzed/hydrogen peroxide, dimethyldioxirane (DMDO), and meta ‐chloroperbenzoic acid ( m ‐CPBA) performed to obtain reactive BCPs. The DMDO approach the best strategy highly SIS BCP (85 mol %) without formation side products. Careful control...
