The available data on nuclear fusion cross sections important to energy generation in the Sun and other hydrogen-burning stars solar neutrino production are summarized critically evaluated. Recommended values uncertainties provided for key sections, a recommended spectrum is given $^{8}\mathrm{B}$ neutrinos. Opportunities further increasing precision of rates also discussed, including new facilities, experimental techniques, improvements theory. This review, which summarizes conclusions...

We give the LUNA results on cross section measurement of a key reaction proton-proton chain strongly affecting calculated neutrino luminosity from Sun: He3+He3-->He4+2p. Due to cosmic ray suppression provided by Gran Sasso underground laboratory it has been possible measure down lower edge solar Gamow peak, i.e. as low 16.5 keV centre mass energy. The data clearly show increase due electron screening effect but they do not exhibit any evidence for narrow resonance suggested explain observed flux.

The rate of the (17)F(p,gamma)(18)Ne reaction is important in various astrophysical events. A previous (17)F(p,p)(17)F measurement identified a 3;{+} state providing strongest resonance contribution, but strength was unknown. We have directly measured using mixed beam (17)F and (17)O at ORNL. for (18)Ne found to be omegagamma = 33 +/- 14(stat) +/-1 7(syst) meV, corresponding gamma width Gamma_{gamma} 56 24(stat) 30(syst) meV. An upper limit on direct capture S(E) <or= 65 keV b determined an...

We report on the results of ${}^{3}\mathrm{He}{(}^{4}\mathrm{He}{,2p)}^{4}\mathrm{He}$ experiment at underground accelerator facility LUNA (Gran Sasso). For first time lowest projectile energies utilized for cross section measurement correspond to below center solar Gamow peak ${(E}_{0}=22 \mathrm{keV})$. The data provide no evidence existence a hypothetical resonance in energy range investigated. Although extrapolation is needed anymore (except low-energy tail peak), must be corrected...

The 21Na(p,gamma)22Mg reaction is expected to play an important role in the nucleosynthesis of 22Na oxygen-neon novae. decay leads emission a characteristic 1.275 MeV gamma-ray line. This report provides first direct measurement rate this using radioactive 21Na beam, and discusses its astrophysical implications. energy state was measured be E(c.m.)=205.7+/-0.5 keV with resonance strength omegagamma=1.03+/-0.16(stat)+/-0.14(sys) meV.

A compact high-current 50 kV ion accelerator facility including a windowless gas target system, beam calorimeter, and detector telescopes in close geometry has been built tested. The data acquisition analysis involved multiparameter system Monte Carlo program. LUNA facility, presently installed at the Gran Sasso underground laboratory, is pilot project focused initially on cross section measurements of 3He(3He, 2p)4He reaction within thermal energy region sun. To achieve this goal,...

The drive of low-energy nuclear astrophysics laboratories is to study the reactions importance stellar burning processes and elemental production through nucleosynthesis, over energy range astrophysical interest. Abstract Plastic scintillators are commonly used as first‐line detectors for special nuclear materials. Current state‐of‐the‐art plastic based on poly(vinyltoluene) (PVT) matrices containing high loadings (>15.0 wt %) of 2,5‐diphenyloxazole (PPO) offer neutron signal discrimination in gamma radiation background (termed pulse shape discrimination, PSD), however, they suffer from poor mechanical properties. In this work, a series p ‐terphenyl and fluorene derivatives were synthesized tested...
