Hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia (HED) is a rare disease. Patients with HED present sparse hair on the head, dysplastic teeth and anhidrosis since childhood, along atopic dermatitis-like skin manifestations. We report 20-year-old male patient who was successfully treated dupilumab. Genetic analysis identified splicing mutation in EDA gene, NG_009809.2 (NM_001399.5):c.793 + 3A>C r.742_793del p.Pro248Ilefs Ter15, which has never been reported before. The subject presented to our...

A 26‐year‐old woman with no family history of dermatophytosis presented pruritic erythema on the right palm ( Fig. 1 ) in November 2002, month after first noticing it. She had lesions soles, toe webs, left palm, or nails. The been treated topical steroids for 4 weeks, but continued to expand. measured 42 mm × 36 mm, and was hyperemic infiltrated unevenly. Its center showed signs healing, its periphery exhibited small vesicles, margin scales. On scales, fungal hyphae chains arthroconidia were...

To determine the relationships among Trichophyton species we constructed three phylogenies, based on nucleotide sequences of actin, rRNA and DNA topoisomerase II genes. These phylogenies showed several conflicting branch points. For example, strains T. verrucosum,T. concentricum mentagrophytes var. erinacei were mingled with Arthroderma benhamiae could not be separated into their own phylogenic groups. In addition, A. vanbreuseghemii, tonsurans, interdigitale quinckeanum simii rubrum...

Arthroderma benhamiae vectored by small animals, such as household pets, causes tinea lesions on human skin. The number of cases caused this species is increasing in Japan. We attempted to develop a simple molecular method for strain discrimination, which expected be useful epidemiology. Out the 61 strains A. registered at our institute, 46 showed very high degrees sequence similarity cluster analysis internal transcribed spacer regions ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes. These strains, including 22...

In follicular keratosis of the chin, keratotic papules occur on chin and jaw due to localized prolonged pressure friction naked skin. We present one patient with this disorder. The dermatoscopic examination revealed many well-demarcated yellow spindle bodies in patchy lesion. Therapy 1.24R-dihydroxyvitamin D3 ointment was effective during treatment but had no residual positive effect.

A number of cases Trichophyton tonsurans infection have been reported among sportsmen and women participating in wrestling, judo, sumo wrestling Japan, but there also sporadic reports with no history contact these sports. molecular method using restriction enzyme analysis PCR-amplified fragments targeting the non-transcribed spacer region (NTS) ribosomal RNA gene fungal nuclei was applied to T. strains isolated from Japan. Five 6 types recorded i.e., NTS I, II, IV, V, VI, two new types,...

Three genetically hybrid F1 progenies produced between a clinical isolate of Arthroderma simii (KMU4810) and tester strain A. vanbreuseghemii (RV27961) were crossed with two strains (RV27961 RV27960) benhamiae (RV30001), respectively. crossings yielded second progenies. Another interspecies crossing (RV26680) one progeny (Asb57). The (Asb57) (RV30001) many Some confirmed to have genes from three species. gene exchangeability among species was shown the meaning these events discussed.

Abstract A 90‐year‐old Japanese woman, taking prednisolone (5–10 mg/day) for polyarthritis, presented to our hospital with multiple subcutaneous lesions on her left arm in 2009. Her history included excision of a phaeomycotic cyst the middle finger 2007. There were three nodules approximately 15 mm diameter around wrist and large soft cystic lesion measuring 80 × 60 elbow. granuloma neutrophilic infiltration was detected deep dermis biopsy specimen.

Microsporum canis, a major causative agent of zoonotic dermatophytosis, has become prevalent in Japan. Molecular epidemiological surveys using multilocus microsatellite typing (MLMT), sensitive genotyping tool for fungi, have been conducted to reveal intraspecies polymorphisms M. canis. The present study utilized MLMT optimized Japanese strains canis analyze epidemic trends fungal infection. We cultured 15 isolates of Trichophyton rubrum and one isolate mentagrophytes from an 82-year-old male tinea patient with multiple lesions. To determine whether feet lesions were the source dermatophytes other lesions, we extracted total cellular DNA T. isolates(13 feet, two right waist buttock). Specifically, mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) type, nuclear (nDNA) mating colony texture, growth rate, urease activity, red pigmentation hair perforation examined. nDNA types based on the restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) in internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes inherited parents independently. mtDNA type was only one...
