Intake of high-fat/high-sucrose (HFS) diet or high fat influences bone metabolism in young rodents, but its effects on properties aged rodents still remain unclear. This study aimed to examine the HFS intake trabecular architecture (TBA) and cortical geometry (CBG) rats. Fifteen male Wistar rats over 1 year were randomly divided into two groups. One group was fed a standard laboratory (SLD) other for six months. The femur/tibia, obtained from both groups at end experimental period, scanned...

Falls are a common problem among elderly persons, but the training for fall prevention is not well established. Therefore, effectiveness of toe grasp was examined in this study. Spontaneous postural sway tested on persons (N=19) with eyes open and closed. Using force plate, responses were quantified terms total track length, environmental areas, maximum amplitude distance X-axis, Y-axis. The data compared between group control group. Total length (eyes closed), areas open) X-axis closed)...

To examine the effects of whole body vibration (WBV) on bone properties in growing rats, and to explore optimal conditions for enhancing properties.Thirty-six 4-week-old male rats were divided into 1 control 5 experimental groups. Each group underwent WBV at 15, 30, 45, 60, 90 Hz (0.5 g, 15 min/d, d/wk) 8 weeks. We measured size, muscle weight mechanical strength right tibia. Trabecular mass trabecular microstructure (TBMS) left tibia analyzed by micro-computed tomography. Serum levels...

Influences on dynamic balance were examined by comparing footwear with clog thongs such as slippers thongs, to without them leather-soled sandals, and Japanese socks. Forty three university students in good health took part this examination. In the case of postural response latencies horizontal movement platform decreased when compared that for thongs. standing strength was moved horizontally, Among socks, both latency minimal sandals. Therefore, it can be said thin soles, low heels most...

This experiment, conducted with the cooperation of 30 healthy university students, was a comparative study how dynamic balance is affected by various types footwear on an immobilized foot-ankle joint. Results indicated increase muscular exertion related to control posture when joint immobilized. When shock absorption materials were used, extended latency evident and bottom surface foot stimulated, as protuberances "health-sandals" type footwear, increased cerebrum skin perception noted. In...

The behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) change the lifestyles demented people their caregivers. While various interventions in have been reported, relationship between family visits suppression BPSD a nursing home has rarely addressed. This study investigated whether frequency was associated with reduction aging home. Subjects 52 (30.7 ± 10.0 years old) a nursing home who filled out two kinds questionnaires about LBP, one prevalence (QN1) other control measures (QN2). They had either license certified worker, 1st or 2nd class worker. collected for purpose finding differences age career (QN2) between subjects without LBP. average...

We conducted a prospective study on the actual state of fall occurrence and related factors some dementia patients admitted to certain geriatric hospital. Information falls was obtained from assessment recorded by staff. The number these subjects totaled 110 (20 males 90 females), period this 6 months. Their rate during that as high 56%. frequently occurring places peak time coincided with times slots in which their activity enhanced. Most injuries suffered due were minor ones, there no bone...

[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to make an experimental model cervical spinal cord injury (CSCI) using Wistar rats, in order analyze the influence CSCI on respiratory function. [Subjects] Thirty-two male 12-week-old rats were used. [Methods] made at levels from C3 C7, and we performed pneumotachography electromyography (EMG) diaphragm. Computed tomography used determine level damage. [Results] After operation, tidal volume with a decreased approximately 22.3% its pre-injury value. In...

In a unilaterally denervated diaphragm, atrophy of fast-twitch glycolytic (FG) fibers, but not oxidative (FOG) or slow-twitch (SO) occurs. The inhibition in FOG and SO fibers may be due to the effects stretch stimuli caused by respiratory contraction contralateral diaphragm. We examined exercise (treadmill running) on histochemical biochemical properties muscle costal diaphragm three groups. Eighteen rats were distributed (i) denervation + treadmill running (Dn ex) group, (ii) (Dn) (iii)...

Diabetic skeletal muscles show reduced contractile force and increased fatigability. Hands are a target for several diabetes-induced complications. Therefore, handgrip strength often occurs as consequence of diabetes. The aim this study was to examine whether long-term exercise can prevent reduction grip in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) model OLETF rats, explore the mechanisms underlying reduction. Ten 5-week-old rats were used experimental animals, five non-diabetic LETO controls rats....
