Neonatal seizures are often subclinical, making accurate diagnosis difficult. To describe the clinical manifestations of electrographic recorded on continuous video-EEG, and to compare this description with recognition by experienced neonatal staff.Term infants, at risk seizures, were monitored 12-channel video-EEG from <6 hours birth for up 72 hours. All staff individual seizure charts. Video-EEG recordings subsequently analysed. The number, duration expression calculated (in seconds),...
We examined the evolution of electroencephalographic (EEG) changes after hypoxic injury.Continuous, multichannel, video-EEG was recorded for term infants with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, from <6 hours to 72 delivery. One-hour segments at 6, 12, 24, and 48 age EEG were analyzed visually, neurologic outcome assessed 24 months.Forty-four completed neurodevelopmental follow-up. Of those, 20 (45%) had abnormal outcomes. The grade assigned correlated significantly outcome. abnormalities...
Accurate diagnosis of neonatal seizures is critically important and often made clinically, without EEG (electroencephalography) monitoring. This observational study aimed to determine the accuracy interobserver reliability healthcare professionals in distinguishing clinically manifested from other movements, when presented with clinical histories digital video recordings only.Twenty paroxysmal movements term preterm infants were selected a video-EEG database. The categorized as seizure...
The clinical and electrographic signs of hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE) evolve over the first days life. We examined evolution neurological 3 life, determined whether serial administration Amiel-Tison Neurological Assessment at Term (ATNAT) would predict neurodevelopmental outcome 24 months.Term (>37 wks' gestation) neonates born with suspected HIE between May 2003 2005 in a Cork maternity unit were recruited prospectively. Modified Sarnat grading was assigned. ATNAT administered on...
Data for liver transplant recipients (LTRs) regarding the benefit of care concordant with clinical practice guidelines management blood pressure (BP) are sparse. This paper reports on clinician adherence BP guideline recommendations and whether control is associated mortality cardiovascular events (CVEs) among LTRs. We conducted a longitudinal cohort study adult LTRs who survived to hospital discharge at large tertiary network between 2010 2016. The primary exposure was <140/<90 mm Hg within...
BACKGROUND. After perinatal asphyxia, predicting which infants will develop significant hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy and neonatal seizures remains a difficult task. High-risk markers (Apgar score, acidosis, nucleated red blood cells, resuscitation) have been used to predict with varying success. The “3 strikes” of Apgar score <5 at 5 minutes, pH <7.00, need for intubation cited as having positive predictive value 80%. We examined whether the values these would be increased...
Background Recent evaluation of rheumatic heart disease (RHD) mortality demonstrates disproportionate burden within the United States. However, there are few contemporary data on US children living with acute fever (ARF) and RHD. Methods Results Twenty‐two pediatric institutions participated in a 10‐year review (2008–2018) electronic medical records echocardiographic databases 4 to 17 years diagnosed ARF/RHD determine demographics, diagnosis, management. Geocoding was used census tract‐based...
Neurologic presentations in children with COVID-19 infection are rare. Reports of pediatric multi-inflammatory syndrome have dominated the literature, although cases pure neurologic manifestations been described.1–3 Akinetic mutism has previously reported steroid-responsive COVID-19-related encephalitis.4 We present case a 16-year-old girl who presented visual hallucinations and ritualistic behaviors. She subsequently developed severe encephalopathy akinetic context infection.
Ninety five HIV seropositive and 32 seronegative homosexual men were recruited to a prospective study of the early features natural history neurological manifestations infection. There was no evidence from initial examination, neuropsychological test battery, nerve conduction studies, somatosensory evoked potentials legs, P300 event related auditory potentials, magnetic stimulation motor cortex, or MRI scans that infected without symptoms in CDC groups II/III differed significantly well...
Gaussian process (GP) probabilistic models have attractive advantages over parametric and neural network modeling approaches. They a small number of tuneable parameters, can be trained on relatively training sets, provide measure prediction certainty. In this paper, these properties are exploited to develop two methods highlighting the presence neonatal seizures from electroencephalograph (EEG) signals. first method, certainty GP model is used indicate seizures. second approach,...
A sample of 26 HIV seronegative, 59 seropositive asymptomatic and 7 symptomatic homosexual bisexual men were assessed over two visits, a mean 11 months apart, using the BDI, STAI, CIS. Significant differences emerged between group other groups. Past psychiatric history somatic items in assessments accounted for some these differences. The seronegative groups did not differ on any mood or assessments, suggesting minimal effect psychological well-being seroconversion absence symptoms.

Background:
Predicting at birth which infants with perinatal hypoxic–ischaemic injury will progress to significant encephalopathy remains a challenge.
Objective:
To determine whether lactic acidosis in asphyxiated neonates could predict the grade of EEG by examining relationship between time taken for normalisation lactate, severity and seizure burden.
Methods:
Continuous early video-EEG monitoring was performed babies risk encephalopathy. Encephalopathy graded...
Background Cardiovascular health (CVH) is suboptimal in US adolescents. Social determinants of (SDOH) may affect CVH. We examined SDOH by race and ethnicity assessed for associations between CVH among Methods Results analyzed data from the National Health Nutrition Examination Survey 3590 participants aged 12 to 19 years 1999 2014. variables were chosen an score assigned (range, 0–7 points; higher=more favorable). was classified according American Heart Association criteria. estimated...
Abstract Snakebite is a cause of significant morbidity in Central Province, Papua New Guinea. Three adult patients with clinical evidence neurotoxicity following envenomation by the Papuan taipan had serial neurophysiological examinations over course their subsequent hospitalization. All required artificial ventilation for 2.5 to 5 days. The compound muscle action potential (CMAP) amplitudes declined first 2 4 days after envenoming and then gradually increased parallel recovery. Repetitive...
Seventy-six homosexual or bisexual men underwent two cranial MRI studies at a mean interval of 13 months; 23 were HIV seronegative, 41 seropositive but asymptomatic (Center for Disease Control (CDC) groups II/III), and 12 had AIDS related complex (ARC)/AIDS (CDC group IV). Agreement between neuroradiologists was rated as very good assessment enlargement ventricles widening cerebral sulci the presence focal lesions. For serial studies, agreement moderate. The prevalence atrophy white matter...
In this study neonatal EEG has been analysed with information theory, complexity, SVD-based and nonlinear dynamic systems or chaos approaches. The analysis carried out to determine, given the amount of extra time needed generate theory results, if they are considerably better than their complexity counterparts. results show that while KY dimension gives comparable performance approaches, its computation is more 1000 times greater. effects preprocessing also
