Summary— The clinical outcome of 278 prostate cancer patients managed by a deferred treatment policy was analysed retrospectively. Following TURP or biopsy, all were asymptomatic and deemed suitable for management policy, i.e. hormone therapy other forms only initiated if when symptomatic progression occurred. overall 5‐year survival rate 30%; 18% died from causes without needing their cancer; 11% alive untreated after 5 years' follow‐up; 17% further treatment. Poor tumour grade, anaemia,...

Animal collagenase, first isolated from tadpoles (1, 2), has also been detected in a number of other tissues (3-14). To date, however, only the enzymes obtained tadpole fin (15, 16), rat uterus (14), rheumatoid synovial tissue (12), and human skin (13) have partially purified characterized, their mode action degrading collagen macromolecule studied. If collagenase is physiologically important plays significant role degradation, one would expect considerable quantities such an enzyme to be...

OBJECTIVE • To ascertain if filling the bladder with warm normal saline before trial of void (TOV) reduces time to decision outcome TOV and discharge compared standard in‐dwelling catheter (IDC) removal in outpatient setting. PATIENTS AND METHODS A prospective randomized controlled (not blinded) was carried out day procedure unit. Randomization done using computer‐generated random numbers. The sample size calculated based on initial pilot data α = 0.05 β 0.2 a clinically important reduction...

Summary— Renal nephrostomy track dilatation is an integral part of percutaneous renal surgery. The traditional method has employed sequential dilators increasing size, or balloon dilatation. This study used a canine model to investigate the effects single‐increment 24 F and compares it with conventional techniques. Single‐increment proved be safe technique minimal haemorrhage parenchymal damage healing at 6 weeks by fine linear scar. It was as We believe this proves that single‐stage for use...

To assess the role of in vivo staining with intravesical methylene blue predicting tumour recurrence.Thirty-nine patients (27 men and 12 women, age range 43-75 years) newly diagnosed bladder tumours were prospectively studied followed for a minimum 2 years. Potential biopsy sites identified by intravesically 1% solution compared random sites.Biopsy directed detected carcinoma situ more often than biopsy. Rates recurrence similar both stained unstained groups.Methylene does not add...

Transurethral balloon dilatation was performed on 6 patients, who were assessed pre‐ and post‐procedure symptomatic urodynamic criteria. Follow‐up average 11.7 months. Only 1 patient had a successful result, despite early initial improvement in five. In view of our results reports from other centres we cannot recommend transurethral the prostate as treatment patients with bladder outlet obstruction due to benign prostatic hypertrophy, except exceptional circumstances.
