We studied the floral biology of 12 populations five rupicolous Pleurothallis (Orchidaceae) species occurring in campo rupestre vegetation at nine localities Brazil. All these are pollinated by flies belonging to families Chloropidae and Phoridae. In studied, all conspecific attracted same pollinator species. pollinators were females; they laid eggs flowers two nectarless species, but never nectar-presenting The pairs with similar flower morphologies odours pollinators: P. johannensis -...

Intra- and interspecific experimental pollinations were made to determine the mating systems crossing potential in individuals from 24 populations of five Pleurothallis species. johannensis , P. ochreata teres show weak or partial self-incompatibility while adamantinensis P.fabiobarrosii are more strictly self-incompatible. We found no differences fruit set between intra- interpopulation intraspecific crosses, there was correlation genetic variability inbreeding these All species...

Minasia ramosa, a new species from Brazil, is here described and illustrated. The endemic to the campos rupestres of Serra do Cabral, western extension Espinhaco Range in Minas Gerais. ramosa characterized by its narrow ensiform leaves, paniculate inflorescence totally setuliferous cypselae. affinities this are discussed.

Abstract The subtribe Lychnophorinae (Asteraceae: Vernonieae) comprises approximately 100 species and 18 genera distributed mostly in the Cerrado Domain of Brazilian Central Plateau. Phylogenetic analyses based on four molecular regions (ETS, ITS, ndhF, rpl32-trnL) a morphological dataset were performed, aiming to delimit monophyletic genera, confirm or refute generic assignment several species, achieve better understanding relationships between identify characters synapomorphies for major...

We conducted an isozyme study in 22 populations of five Pleurothallis (Orchidaceae) species (12 loci nine enzymatic systems). The genetic variability all is surprisingly high ( P = 58–83%, A 2.1–3.8, H e 0.25–0.43) spite the fact that are pollinated by small flies whose behavior enables self‐pollination. suggest self‐incompatibility, inbreeding depression, and mechanical barriers prevent self‐pollination these responsible for maintainance variability. These traits uncommon Orchidaceae, but...

Morphometric analyses of vegetative and floral characters were conducted in 21 populations five Pleurothallis (Orchidaceae) species occurring Brazilian 'campo rupestre' vegetation. A phylogenetic analysis this group was also carried out using nuclear ribosomal DNA internal transcribed spacers (ITS1 ITS2). Results the ordination cluster agree with species' delimitation revealed by taxonomic allozyme studies. The groups formed correspond to pollinator determined a previous pollination study....
