We examined genetically determined oxidation polymorphisms of metoprolol and mephenytoin in 200 unrelated, healthy Japanese subjects 98 mainland Chinese simultaneously. This examination was done according to the respective reported phenotyping criteria by use urinary metablic ratio percentage excretion 4-hydroxymephenytoin 8 hours after dose administration. The frequencies occurrence poor metabolizers (PMs) versus were 0.5% 0% for 22.5% 17.4% mephenytoin, respectively. There no statistically...

A considerable number of gastric cancers derive from stomach mucosa where chronic atrophic gastritis is severe and extensive. Based on the fact that serum pepsinogen levels provide a precise measure extent gastritis, we have devised mass screening method involving measurement to identify subjects at high risk cancer. In 1991, screened 4,647 workers (male: 4,113, female: 534, mean age: 49.0 years) Japanese company using this method. Out 875 (18.8%) with I level less than 50 μg/liter I/II...

The effectiveness of comprehensive stroke center (CSC) capabilities on mortality remains uncertain. We performed a nationwide study to examine whether CSC influenced in-hospital patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke.Of the 1,369 certified training institutions in Japan, 749 hospitals responded questionnaire survey regarding that queried availability personnel, diagnostic techniques, specific expertise, infrastructure, educational components recommended for CSCs. ABSTRACT Transfusion-transmissible infections among 808 blood donors in Ghana were investigated 1999. Antibody seroprevalences of 3.8, 0.7, 8.4, and 13.5%, respectively, for human immunodeficiency virus, T-cell lymphotrophic virus type 1, hepatitis C (HCV), Treponema pallidum obtained. The seroprevalence HCV infection was confirmed to be 0.9% after supplementary testing, the transfusion risk potential these pathogens demonstrated.

Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae is a gram-positive rod capable of causing erysipelas in swine. To establish method for specifically detecting E. practical applications, such as the inspection slaughterhouses, feasibility using primers derived from DNA sequence coding 16S rRNA PCR-specific detection system was investigated. Oligonucleotide were designed to amplify 407-bp fragment by PCR. The amplification specific but not that other bacterial genera tested. This PCR-based efficiently and...

Cholinergic stimulation of the lateral hypothalamic neurons with intrahypothalamic microinjections acetylcholine or carbachol caused a marked increase in content active form glycogen (starch) synthase liver. Total activity enzyme (active plus inactive forms) was not increased significantly. The lowest effective dose 5 × 10 -10 mole, and optimum -9 mole. Similar applications other neurotransmitters, such as norepinephrine, dopamine, serotonin, γ-aminobutyric acid, did affect enzyme's activity.

Abstract Acute gastroenteritis associated with diarrhea is considered a serious disease in Africa and South Asia. In this study, we examined the trends causative pathogens of corresponding gut microbiota Ghana using microbiome analysis performed on diarrheic stools via 16S rRNA sequencing. total, 80 patients 34 healthy adults as controls, from 2017 to 2018, were enrolled study. Among diarrhea, 39 norovirus-positive 18 rotavirus-positive. The species richness (Chao1) was lower than that...

The effects of electrolytic lesions the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) and ventromedial (VMH) hypothalamus on circadian rhythm liver glycogen metabolism were studied in rats fed during dark period (2000-0800 h). Bilateral SCN did not affect appreciably rhythmicity three parameters metabolism, i.e., content synthetase I phosphorylase a activities. In contrast, bilateral VMH resulted almost complete loss activity by lowering high normally observed late evening. also reduced amplitudes rhythms...

Background Buruli ulcer (BU) caused by Mycobacterium ulcerans (M. ulcerans) has emerged as an important public health problem in several rural communities sub-Saharan Africa. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment are preventing disfiguring complications associated with late stages of the disease progression.
