The genomic sequences of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronaviruses from human and palm civet the 2003/2004 outbreak in city Guangzhou, China, were nearly identical. Phylogenetic analysis suggested an independent viral invasion animal to this new episode. Combining all existing data but excluding singletons, we identified 202 single-nucleotide variations. Among them, 17 are polymorphic civets only. ratio nonsynonymous/synonymous nucleotide substitution collected 1 yr apart different...

Using three different assays, we examined 103 serum samples collected from civet farms and a market in China June 2003 January 2004. While civets on were largely free SARS-CoV infection, approximately 80% of the animals one animal Guangzhou contained significant levels antibody to SARS-CoV, which suggests no widespread infection among resident farms, might be associated with trading activities under conditions overcrowding mixing various species.

Five strains of infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) were isolated from five layer flocks that had nephropathogenic infection in four provinces China. Among them, three the been vaccinated against bronchitis. Virulence studies indicated Chinese IBV isolates caused 10 to 30% mortality 15-day-old specific pathogen free chickens and gross lesions mainly confined kidneys all dead chickens. Two oligonucleotide pairs, S1Uni2 S1Oligo3' or S1Oligo5' S1Oligo3', used after propagation embryonated eggs...

Coronavirus-like viruses, designated peafowl/China/LKQ3/2003 (pf/CH/LKQ3/03) and teal/China/LDT3/2003 (tl/CH/LDT3/03), were isolated from a peafowl teal during virological surveillance in Guangdong province, China. Partial genomic sequence analysis showed that these isolates had the S-3-M-5-N gene order is typical of avian coronaviruses. The spike, membrane nucleocapsid protein genes pf/CH/LKQ3/03 >99 % identity to those infectious bronchitis coronavirus H120 vaccine strain (Massachusetts...

Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) was caused by a novel virus now known as SARS coronavirus (SARS-CoV). The discovery of SARS-CoV-like viruses in masked palm civets (Paguma larvata) raises the possibility that play role SARS-CoV transmission. To test susceptibility to experimental infection different isolates, 10 were inoculated with two human isolates SARS-CoV, BJ01 (with 29-nucleotide deletion) and GZ01 (without deletion). All animals displayed clinical symptoms, such fever,...

Twenty-six avian infectious bronchitis (IB) viruses (IBV) were isolated from outbreaks in chickens China between 1995 and 2004. They characterized by comparison with twenty-six Chinese reference strains five other IBV strains. IBVs, which mainly nephropathogenic, placed into seven genotypes. Fourteen isolates genotype I, having small evolutionary distances each other. Genotype II included 6 that the 1990s China. III consisted of eight showed close relationship Korean isolates. Abstract Background Infectious bronchitis virus (IBV), a prototype of the Coronaviridae family, is an economically important causative agent infectious in chickens and causes acute highly contagious upper respiratory tract infections that may lead to nephritis. However, molecular antiviral mechanisms IBV infection remain poorly understood. In this study, we conducted global gene expression profiling chicken kidney tissue after nephropathogenic better understand interactions between host...

Rabbit antisera were prepared using full-length N M eight expressed fragments covering S protein. Antisera to found have different neutralizing titres towards SARS-CoV infection vivo, ranging from 1:35 1:128. Antiserum protein did not contain...
