In this paper we describe the High Pressure Gas Scintillation Proportion Counter, one of Narrow Field Instrument X–ray astronomy satellite BeppoSAX. Sensitive in 4-120 keV band, HPGSPC will study all astrophysical sources emitting poorly studied hard band. The design and performances instrument are reported together with results on–ground calibration data analysis.
The spectral properties of a sample six low-mass X-ray binaries are studied using data obtained with the Gas Scintillation Proportional Counter (GSPC) on EXOSAT. various continuum models proposed for these sources investigated. Only two-component provide an acceptable fit to data. Two possible model combinations were found: in both cases one component was blackbody other either thermal bremsstrahlung or unsaturated Comptonized spectrum low-energy photons high-energy electrons. characteristic...
Abstract The seismic potential of the Lesser Antilles subduction zone is poorly known and highly debated. Only two damaging earthquakes have been reported in historical period, 1839 1843, but their sources magnitude are still uncertain. Global Navigation Satellite Systems coral data contradict each other, no conclusion has reached on coupling ratio plate interface. Given threat posed by possible occurrence a large megathrust earthquake, it crucial to gain information prehistorical events. We...
The in-orbit performance of the EXOSAT gas scintillation proportional counter spectrometer is presented. background rejection capability in deep orbit examined as well overall detectors response. Typical examples spectra from cosmic X-ray sources show that this new type detector will make a significant advance to field medium energy broad band spectroscopy.
A position sensitive gas scintillation proportional counter is presented for use as a broad band spectrometer in the focal plane of an imaging X-ray telescope. The 7 cm diameter detector has on-axis ~ 2.5 mm and energy resolution 10% 6 keV X-rays. Design improvements are outlined which should provide below 1 at over useful aperture 8 cm. Such detector, can, conjunction with suitable telescope, perform spectral mapping range 0.1 - extended objects such clusters galaxies supernova remnants...
Results are presented on improvements in the performance of medium energy large area gas scintillation proportional counters for use X-ray astronomy. By a suitable choice mixture electron transit time through drift region can be significantly lowered with consequent reduction detector dead time. In addition diffusion is also reduced and this should result an increase background rejection efficiency.
Results are presented on the performance of a large area gas scintillation proportional counter (GSPC) experiment for application as spectrometer in X-ray astronomy. Two such counters will be launched an Aries sounding rocket 1979. This has total collecting 630 cm2, and energy resolution 11% 6 keV X-rays. The intrinsic background rejection capability with aid burst length discrimination was ~ 80% acceptance at keV.
The Indonesian Young Toba Tuff (YTT), classically dated around 74 ka BP, is considered as a short-lived explosive cataclysmic super-eruption. huge amounts of ash and SO2 emitted are likely to have triggered volcanic winter which accelerated the transition last glaciation, may induced human genetic bottleneck. However, global climatic impact YTT or its duration hotly debated. present work offers new interpretation complex eruptive history. Analysing BAR94-25 marine core proximal center...

Results are presented on the development of a position sensitive gas scintillation proportional counter for use in high energy X-ray astronomy. This detector has higher background rejection efficiency and better resolution above 35 keV than conventional scintillators, counters crystal scintillators. These improvements arise directly fran application discrimination technique which makes detection fluorescent Xenon K shell photon emitted most interactions involving photoabsorption genuine...
The High Pressure Gas Scintillation Proportional Counter (HPGSPC), one of the experiments on board Italian-Dutch X-Ray Astronomy Satellite SAX, is a large area (450 cm2), xenon filled (5 atm.), high energy resolution (3% at 60 keV) detector sensitive in range from 4 to 120 keV. In paper we give general description characteristic experiment. Some effort dedicated illustrate correction algorithm required for preserving potentially good full .

Experimental results obtained from a new, position sensitive, gas scintillation proportional counter are presented. The counter, for use in X-ray astronomy as focal plane instrument conjunction with grazing incidence imaging telescope, features useful aperture of ~ 7 cm, two-stage region and seven photomultiplier tube Anger camera read-out system. An energy resolution μ 20% FWHM at 1.25 keV (< 10% 6 keV) 900 μm the centre achieved.
