Abstract Generic delimitations within the cosmopolitan Carduus‐Cirsium group (i.e., “thistles”) have a long history of taxonomic confusion and debate. We present most comprehensive molecular phylogeny to date test generic limits, reconstruct evolution pappus type, elucidate role chromosomal evolution. offer two solutions for recognition monophyletic genera: (1) consolidate all taxa into one large genus ( Carduus or Cirsium ), (2) recognize each major clade as , Eriolepis Notobasis Picnomon...

The floras on the highest mountains in tropical eastern Africa are among most unique world. Despite exceptionally high concentration of endemic species, these remain understudied from an evolutionary point view. In this study, we focus Carduus-Cirsium group (subtribe Carduinae) to unravel relationships species Afromontane and Afroalpine floras, aiming improve systematics group. We applied Hyb-Seq approach using Compositae1061 probe set 190 samples (159 species), encompassing representatives...

The essential oils obtained by water distillation from aerial parts of Achillea schischkinii Sosn. and aleppica DC. subsp. were analyzed gas chromatography chromatography/mass spectrometry. 1,8-Cineole (32.5 26.1%, respectively) was the main component in both oils. oil A. also found to be rich bisabolol its derivates. When tested for their antimicrobial, antiinflammatory, antinociceptive activities, showed significant antinociceptive, moderate antimicrobial activities.
