カーボンナノウォール(CNW)の構造を透過型電子顕微鏡(TEM)で観測し,CNWの結晶子間の境界領域に折れ曲がったグラファイト構造があることがわかった.CNWの電子構造を紫外光電子分光(UPS)で測定し,高配向性グラファイト(HOPG)と比較した.HOPGと同様にCNWでも層間バンドが観測された.一方,カーボンナノチューブに見られるσ-π混成バンドが観測された.昇温脱離法(TPD)の測定から,重水素がCNWの主に境界領域に吸着することがわかった.CNWの境界領域の1つのモデルとして折れ曲がったコロネン分子を用いて水素吸着に関して第一原理計算をおこなった.オントップサイトとホローサイトどちらも折れ曲げ角が大きくなるほど水素の吸着エネルギーが大きくなった.NBO解析から吸着サイトの炭素の結合がsp2からsp3に変化するためだとわかった.

症例は29歳男性である.2008年に肺サルコイドーシスを指摘された.2010年10月下旬に38°C台の発熱,頭痛が出現した.11月より膿疱性乾癬の診断で皮膚科へ入院したが,発熱,頭痛が改善せず当科に転科した.頭部MRIで脳底部を中心に微小造影結節をみとめた.脳脊髄液検査で細胞数,蛋白が増加し,糖は7 mg/dlと著明な低値を示した.抗結核薬,ステロイドパルス療法をおこなったが臨床症状,検査値ともに改善しなかった.髄膜生検で髄膜播種性サルコイドーシスと診断した.プレドニゾロン60 mg/日を開始し,症状は著明に改善した.髄膜播種性サルコイドーシスでも髄液糖が著明に低下する可能性に留意すべきである.
