The nonlinear optical response of some carbon-based nanomaterials, namely nanodiamonds and carbon nanoparticles (C-dots) are investigated using infrared nanosecond laser pulses. Both nanocarbons had similar sizes (<; 10 nm) exhibited measurable absorption refraction. Their limiting behaviour has been also investigated. Nanodiamonds were found to exhibit remarkable in the infrared, being therefore promising candidates for potential opto-electronic photonic applications.

“Pop-art” like patterns resulting from the interaction of a single laser pulse focused on a-Ge based chalcogenide thin film capped with SiN layer are presented by Jérôme Gaudin and co-workers. These nondeterministic surface patterns, described in article number 2003032, wrinkles height less than 100 nm sub-micrometer periodicity, which depends impinging fluence.
