Compassion has been associated with eudaimonia and pro-social behavior, it regarded as a virtue, both historically cross-culturally. However, the psychological study of compassion limited to laboratory settings and/or standard survey assessments. Here, we use an experience sampling method (ESM) compare naturalistic assessments assessments, examine compassion, its variability, associations behavior.Undergraduate students (n = 200) took that included eudaimonia. Then, over 4 days, they were...

The authors describe a 9-year-old female who presented with swelling, proptosis, and tenderness of the right upper eyelid MRI imaging demonstrating lacrimal gland enlargement. After failing treatment corticosteroids, patient underwent biopsy that was consistent IgG4-related orbital disease. She subsequently successfully treated adalimumab (TNF-α inhibitor). This is first case report successful use TNF-α inhibitor for disease in child.

Purpose: To investigate the safety and efficacy of direct, intralesional doxycycline hyclate injection for improving appearance cosmetically significant lower eyelid festoons malar edema. Methods: An Institutional Review Board approved, retrospective review was performed 15 consecutive patients with edema and/or injected at a concentration 10 mg/ml. Pre- postinjection photographs were reviewed graded on scale 0 to 3 (0: no festoon; 1: small 2: medium 3: large festoon) by 2 masked physician...

Despite the paucity of supporting data, it has generally been held that proptosis in thyroid eye disease (TED) may provide relative protection from compressive optic neuropathy (CON) by producing spontaneous decompression. The objective this study was to investigate phenomenon patients with bilateral TED-CON.We retrospectively reviewed charts 67 (134 orbits) TED-CON at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. Significant asymmetric (Hertel) defined as ≥ 2 mm. CON first, presence an afferent...

This article examines the effectiveness of skin-muscle flap excision in conjunction with a lateral tarsal strip for treatment involutional entropion. Ninety-six eyelids 83 consecutive patients entropion were treated using standardized surgical procedure. All underwent lower eyelid tightening strip, dissection inferiorly through subciliary incision and redundant skin as well orbicularis muscle. Follow-up data was obtained by retrospective chart review telephone interviews. 80 included this...

To evaluate the improvement in primary and eccentric gaze ocular alignment thyroid eye disease (TED) patients undergoing horizontal strabismus surgery with Tenon's recession. This is an Institutional Review Board-approved retrospective analysis of TED for esotropia. The study included all from 2007 to 2016 operated on by a single surgeon at Columbia University Medical Center.
