ABSTRACT Purpose To examine the degree of neuromuscular fatigue development along with changes in muscle metabolism during two work-matched high-intensity intermittent exercise protocols trained individuals. Methods In a randomized, counter-balanced, crossover design, 11 endurance-trained men performed cycle matched for total work and including either multiple short-duration (18 × 5 s; SS) or long-duration (6 20 LS) sprints. Neuromuscular was determined by preexercise to postexercise maximal...
A 75-year-old woman who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention using an everolimus-eluting stent showed silent in-stent occlusion. Pathological examination of the neointima, resected through directional atherectomy, revealed a double-layered neointima with neointimal hyperplasia and thrombus. Stent-edge restenosis subsequent thrombosis, related to clopidogrel resistance, likely caused thrombotic
To examine the influence of hydrostatic pressure on fractional flow reserve (FFR) in vivo.Systematic differences FFR values have been observed previously left anterior descending artery (LAD), circumflex (LCX), and right coronary (RCA). It has suggested that as variations caused by height between catheter tip (mean aortic (Pa)) pressure-wire sensor distal intracoronary (Pd)) are small, need not be corrected.Resting Pd/Pa 23 patients (27 lesions) were measured compared supine prone positions....
Running economy (RE), which is evaluated at an exercise intensity below the lactate threshold (LT), recognized as most important physiological variable for estimating running performance. However, middle- and long-distance athletes run above LT during their competitive events. This study elucidates relation between 1,500-m performance variables, including RE measured intensities LT. The included 34 male distance runners (1,500-m velocity: 22.2 ± 0.8 km·h−1, equivalent to race times of 4′03″2...
Background The mortality rate of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) remains high. Therefore, patients with ACS should undergo early risk stratification, for which various calculation tools are available. However, it uncertain whether the predictive performance varies over time between different target periods. This study aimed to compare in estimating short- and long-term risks ACS, while considering observation periods using time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis....
Abstract Background Typical Lemierre’s syndrome is usually secondary to an oropharyngeal infection. Recently, several cases following a primary infection site other than the oropharynx have been reported as atypical syndrome; although, these lesions are limited head and neck. This first case potentially sequential infectious foci outside Case presentation We describe in 72-year-old woman with rheumatoid arthritis, which occurred during treatment of Streptococcus anginosus bacteremia acquired...
This study aimed to investigate changes in cerebral hemodynamics and oxygenation at moderate, heavy, maximal supramaximal intensities of rowing exercise. It also examined whether these reflect alterations sensation effort mood. We examine the effects peak pulmonary oxygen consumption ( V. O2peak ) on oxygenation.Eleven rowers, consisting out six athletes five recreational rowers [two female; age, 27 ± 9 years; height, 171 7 cm, body mass, 67 kg; , 53.5 6.5 mL min-1 kg-1] rowed a 13-min...
Aim: We examined the difference in blood glucose and lactate kinetics between highly moderately trained runners during an incremental running test, to examine relationship GT LT different training states. Methods: Eight (25.9±5.6 years, 167.6±5.2 cm, 57.5±6.0 kg) eight (23.8±3.7 173.6±3.8 62.4±4.6 male performed test. Each stage of test consisted for 4 min on a treadmill. The velocity was increased by 0.6 km·h−1·stage−1 until exhaustion. Blood were measured after each stage, determined using...
Leadless pacemaker systems (LPSs) are therapeutic devices for patients with bradyarrhythmia who require right ventricular pacing (and atrial sensing if possible).
Nintedanib, a multi-intracellular tyrosine kinase inhibitor, reduces progression of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and has been approved to use in other progressive fibrosing interstitial lung diseases (ILD) recently. However, the factors that affect discontinuation treatment due adverse events is uncertain. The dorsal muscle group area at T12 vertebral level (T12DMA) assessed on computed tomography (CT) images reported be associated with mortality chronic obstructive disease (COPD)...
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect differences in stroke rate (SR) on energy expenditure during rowing. Oxygen uptake (VO2) measured under different SR conditions with same power output. Eight male collegiate rowers (age: 21.6±1.4 yr, height: 171.1±1.8 cm, weight: 68.7±1.9 kg) participated study. First, they performed an incremental test a rowing ergometer determine output at blood lactate threshold (PLT). On other days, 6 trials maintaining their 80% PLT (80% LT test) and...
A 54-year-old woman presented with persistent productive cough, found to have an endobronchial tumor which obstructed the left upper lobe bronchus. Histopathological examination of a transbronchial biopsy suggested leiomyosarcoma. positron emission tomography (PET)-CT revealed uterus moderate uptake 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose, suggesting uterine malignancies. From results histological findings resected and biopsied bronchial specimen, she was diagnosed leiomyosarcoma metastasis. The systematic...
The 3 factors of the classic model (maximal oxygen uptake [VO2max], fractional utilization VO2max at anaerobic threshold, and running economy [RE]) are well known to be determinants isolated distance performance. However, no previous studies appear have investigated relationship between all performance in Olympic-distance triathlon (ODT). We therefore this by conducting 2 studies. In study I, actual ODT races was 16 male triathletes. II, three simulated with controlled exercise intensities,...

Aim: It has been reported that the relationships between blood glucose and lactate during incremental exercise affected by training status. Nevertheless, glucose, lactate, hormones in different states have not examined. Therefore, purposes of this study were examination these relationships, evaluation whether influenced Methods: Eight male endurance runners (trained group) eight active men (control participated study, all participants running tests. Blood adrenaline, noradrenaline, glucagon...
Background Previous studies strongly have supported importance of aerobic capacity for 2000m rowing performance [1-3] and there are few that demonstrated anaerobic had critical role in [4-6]. The purpose the present study is to investigate relationship between capacity, which were estimated by power (CP) model [7,8] all-out tests short duration as well. We also examined capacity.
