Arterial medial calcifications occur often in diabetic individuals as part of the macroangiopathy. The pathogenesis is unknown, but presence predicts risk cardiovascular events. We examined effects insulin on calcifying smooth muscle cells vitro and measured expression bone-related molecule osteoprotegerin (OPG). Human vascular (VSMCs) were grown from aorta kidney donors. Induction calcification was performed with beta-glycerophosphate. influence (200 microU/ml or 1,000 microU/ml) judged by...
Deregulated microRNAs play a role in the development and progression of colon cancer, but little is known about their tissue cell distribution continuum normal mucosa through premalignant adenoma to invasive adenocarcinoma. The aim this study was examine expression pattern miR-17-92 cluster (miR-17, miR-18, miR-19, miR-20 miR-92) as well miR-21, miR-31, miR-135b, miR-145 early clinically diagnosed cancer. MicroRNAs were analysed by chromogenic situ hybridisation normal-adenoma-adenocarcinoma...
Abstract Introduction H‐index is a widely used metric quantifying researcher's productivity and impact based on an author's publications citations. Though convenient to calculate, h‐index fails incorporate collaborations interrelationships between physicians into its assessment of academic impact, leading limited insight grouped networks. We present social network analysis as tool measure relationships quantify their impact. Methods A bibliometric multicenter was conducted physician faculty...
Breast cancer (BC) survivors may experience accelerated aging due to detrimental effects of BC and/or its treatments. Our study aims evaluate Phenotypic Age Acceleration (PAA), a biological age measure, among patients and assess associations with characteristics In this including 1264 (age 54.7±11.7) 429 cancer-free controls 49.9±12.4), we evaluated the differences in PAA (ΔPAA) by treatments at multiple time points using linear mixed models. Overall, had higher than diagnosis (ΔPAA=3.73,...
Abstract Background Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) patients are at increased risk for recurrence compared to other subtypes of cancer. Previous evidence showed that adiposity may contribute worsened control. Current measures obesity, such as body-mass index (BMI), poor surrogates adiposity, while visceral-to-subcutaneous ratio (VSR), which can be measured from routine computed tomography (CT) imaging, is a direct measure. We hypothesized VSR stronger predictor with BMI in TNBC....
Background The microRNA-200 (miR-200) family acts as a major suppressor of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). Impaired miR-200 expression may lead to EMT initiation and eventually cancer dissemination. presence tumor budding cells (TBC) is associated with metastasis poor prognosis, molecular similarities indicate that these reflect ongoing EMT. aim this study was investigate the miR-200b in colon relationship EMT-markers E-cadherin, β-catenin laminin-5γ2. Material & methods MiR-200b...
MicroRNA-21 (miR-21) expression in stromal fibroblastic cells colorectal cancer is well-documented, whereas miR-21 tumor budding (TBCs) poorly described. TBCs are locally invasive carcinoma with increased metastatic properties and characteristics of epithelial to mesenchymal transition. This study was conducted better characterize the TBCs. First, chromogenic situ hybridization (ISH) staining performed 58 colon adenocarcinomas evident Then, obtain unambiguous identification TBCs, twenty...

Abstract There are currently approximately four million breast cancer (BC) survivors in the US. BC may experience accelerated aging, with greater physical dysfunction and cognitive decline than cancer-free women, potentially due to detrimental effects of and/or its treatments (Tx). However, aging trajectory after diagnosis has not been fully elucidated. A biological age measure, PhenoAge acceleration (PAA), derived from chronological nine clinical blood chemistry biomarkers, associated...
Abstract Background Cancer and its associated treatments may accelerate aging, resulting in increased frailty survivors. However, the effect of breast cancer (BC) treatment on among long-term BC survivors has not been well investigated. This study aims to evaluate prevalence association with clinical characteristics 5-year Methods included 353 214 non-cancer control women aged ≥40 who were recruited an ongoing health at Vanderbilt University Medical Center between 2004 2017, completed online...
10525 Background: There are well-documented disparities among racial and sexual minorities in prostate cancer screening uptake shared-decision making (SDM) conversations. However, it is unclear how racial/ethnic identity orientation interact to affect prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing uptake. Methods: Data came from the 2018-2022 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey (BRFSS). Outcomes were survey responses questions about engagement SDM PSA The sample included 88,365 heterosexual...
Squamous cell carcinoma of the extrahepatic bile ducts is a very rare type cancer with virtually unknown pathogenesis. We present case 66‐year‐old woman who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy postoperative diagnosis squamous common duct. Microscopically, entire duct showed metaplasia. Besides, an invasive was found, stage pT3pN0. A next generation sequencing assay covering 315 tumor‐related genes revealed genomic alterations in seven genes: FBXW7, CREBBP, CTCF, FAT1, MAGI2, MLL2 , and NOTCH1 .
10555 Background: Black breast cancer (BC) patients have a higher mortality rate than their white counterparts, potentially due to age acceleration caused by and its treatments. However, epidemiological evidence is limited. Methods: Our study includes 1885 BC 1224 free women (controls) recruited at Vanderbilt University Medical Center from 2004 2021. Patient demographics aging-related outcomes were extracted the tumor registry or electronic health records. Aging-related included 28...
Abstract This study was undertaken to analyze the presence and prevalence of microRNA-21 (miR-21) positive budding cancer cells in colon using confocal scanning microscopy. Budding are locally invasive with increased metastatic properties characteristics epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT). Expression miR-21 stromal fibroblastic colorectal cancers is well documented (1,2), whereas expression poorly described. In order characterize cells, we first developed a multiplex fluorescence...
