The vanadium atoms in the title anion form a spherical shell— "bulged" by As2O5 groups —around an enclosed H2O molecule. This was revealed X-ray structure analysis of salt K6[As6V15O42(H2O)]ṁ8 H2O. compound is very readily formed and crystallizes large, brown rhombohedra.
Negatively charged ions with significantly different radii, e.g. Cl⊖, Br⊖ and I⊖, can be encapsulated as guest molecules in VO-cluster shells such {V18O42} 1. A core-excited Iπ=(12+) spin-gap isomer was identified in Cd98 an experiment at EUROBALL IV. It found to feed the known Iπ=(8+) seniority by E4 transition. We have observed direct one-proton decay of the (21+) isomer in N=Z nuclide 94Ag into high-spin states 93Pd by detecting protons coincidence with gamma-gamma correlations and applying gamma gates based on known levels.
