The neutron-rich (66,68)Ni have been produced at GANIL via interactions of a 65.9A MeV 70Zn beam with 58Ni target. Their reduced transition probability B(E2;0(+)(1)-->2+) has measured for the first time by Coulomb excitation in (208)Pb target intermediate energy. B(E2) value (68)Ni(40) is unexpectedly small. An analysis terms large scale shell model calculations stresses importance proton core excitations to reproduce values and indicates erosion N = 40 harmonic-oscillator subshell...
In order to investigate the origin(s) of mutation(s) leading beta S-globin gene in North American populations African ancestry, we analyzed DNA polymorphisms beta-globin cluster a large number both A- and gene-bearing chromosomes U.S. Jamaican Blacks. We found 16 different haplotypes polymorphic sites associated with 170 chromosomes. The three most common S haplotypes, which account for 151/170 chromosomes, are only rarely seen bearing A-globin these (6/47). Two observations suggest multiple...
Shape coexistence in the light krypton isotopes was studied two low-energy Coulomb excitation experiments using radioactive $^{74}\mathrm{Kr}$ and $^{76}\mathrm{Kr}$ beams from SPIRAL facility at GANIL. The ground-state bands both were populated up to ${8}^{+}$ state via multi-step excitation, several non-yrast states observed. Large sets of matrix elements extracted for nuclei observed \ensuremath{\gamma}-ray yields. Diagonal determined by utilizing reorientation effect. In spectroscopic...
A new isomeric 0(+) state was identified as the first excited in self-conjugate (N=Z) nucleus 72Kr. By combining for time conversion-electron and gamma-ray spectroscopy with production of metastable states high-energy fragmentation, electric-monopole decay isomer to ground established. The is understood band head known prolate rotational structure, which strongly supports interpretation that 72Kr one rare nuclei having an oblate-deformed state. This observation gives fact evidence a shape...
The moment of inertia the yrast superdeformed band in Gd149 exhibits an unexpected bifurcation at high rotational frequency. States differing by four units angular momentum show energy shift about 60 eV. This indicates remnant a new quantum number associated with fourfold symmetry.Received 15 July 1993DOI:https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevLett.71.4299©1993 American Physical Society
Lifetimes of states in the ground-state bands $^{70}\mathrm{Se}$ and $^{72}\mathrm{Se}$ were measured using recoil-distance Doppler shift method. The results deviate significantly from earlier measurements, requiring a revision conclusions drawn recent Coulomb excitation experiment concerning shape $^{70}\mathrm{Se}$. new lead to coherent picture coexistence neutron-deficient selenium krypton isotopes. evolution oblate prolate shapes this mass region is for first time consistently described...
The quantum-mechanic nature of nuclear matter is at the origin vision a region enhanced stability upper right end chart nuclei, so-called 'island stability'. Since 1960s in early second half last century, various models predict closed shells for proton numbers 114–126 and neutron such as 172 or 184. Being stabilized by effects only, those extremely heavy man-made species are an ideal laboratory to study strong interaction which driving force properties many fields ranging from microscopic...
Background: Multinucleon transfer reactions (MNT) are a competitive tool to populate exotic neutron-rich nuclei in wide region of nuclei, where other production methods have severe limitations or cannot be used at all.Purpose: Experimental information on the yields MNT comparison with theoretical calculations necessary make predictions for heavy nuclei. It is crucial determine fraction reaction products which surviving neutron emission fission high excitation energy after nucleon...
An in-beam study of excited states in the transfermium nucleus 252No has been performed using recoil separator RITU together with JUROSPHERE II array at University Jyväskylä. This is second studied an experiment. Levels up to spin 20 were populated and compared levels 254No. upbend seen a frequency 200 keV/ħ corresponding 16. We also use improved systematics connect energy lowest 2+ state its half-life find that deformation both 252,254No slightly larger than previously assumed.Received July...
Background: Neutron-rich nuclei with protons in the fp shell show an onset of collectivity around N=40. Spectroscopic information is required to understand underlying mechanism and determine relevant terms nucleon-nucleon interaction that are responsible for evolution structure this mass region. Methods: We report on lifetime measurement first 2+ 4+ states 70,72,74Zn 6+ state 72Zn using recoil distance Doppler shift method. The experiment was carried out at INFN Laboratory Legnaro AGATA...
Neutron-induced fission cross sections for 242,243Cm and 241Am have been obtained with the surrogate reaction method. Recent results neutron-induced section of 243Cm are questioned by present data. For first time, 242Cm has determined up to onset second-chance fission. The good agreement at lowest excitation energies between existing data indicates that distributions in spin parity states populated both techniques similar.
The properties of pygmy dipole states in $^{208}\mathrm{Pb}$ were investigated using the $^{208}\mathrm{Pb}$($^{17}\mathrm{O}$, $^{17}\mathrm{O}'\ensuremath{\gamma}$) reaction at 340 MeV and measuring $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ decay with high resolution AGATA demonstrator array. Cross sections angular distributions emitted rays scattered particles measured. results are compared ($\ensuremath{\gamma}$, ${\ensuremath{\gamma}}^{\ensuremath{'}}$) ($p$, ${p}^{\ensuremath{'}}$) data. data analysis...
The rotational band structure of the Z=104 nucleus (256)Rf has been observed up to a tentative spin 20ℏ using state-of-the-art γ-ray spectroscopic techniques. This represents first such measurement in superheavy whose stability is entirely derived from shell-correction energy. properties are compared those neighboring nuclei and it shown that kinematic dynamic moments inertia sensitive underlying single-particle shell specific location high-j orbitals. therefore provide test pairing which...
The γ decay from the high-lying states of 124Sn was measured using inelastic scattering 17O at 340 MeV. emitted rays were detected with high resolution AGATA demonstrator array and scattered ions in two segmented ΔE–E silicon telescopes. angular distribution both for ions. An accumulation E1 strength below particle threshold found compared previous data obtained (γ,γ′) (α,α′γ) reactions. present results elastic scattering, excitation E2 analysed DWBA approach. The structure of neutron-rich 40,42,44S nuclei has been investigated through in-beam γ-ray spectroscopy using the fragmentation reaction a 60 MeV A 48Ca beam on thin Be target. Eγ, Iγ, γγ-coincidence, and angular distributions were measured for each produced fragment. level schemes previously containing only single γ transition extended, spin values proposed new states. experimental results interpreted by use microscopic collective-model large-scale shell-model calculations. model...
The reduced transition probabilities B(E2;0(+) --> 2(+)(1)) of the neutron-rich (74)Zn and (70)Ni nuclei have been measured by Coulomb excitation in a (208)Pb target at intermediate energy. These produced Grand Accélérateur National d'Ions Lourds via interactions 60A MeV (76)Ge beam with Be target. B(E2) value for (70)Ni(42) is unexpectedly large, which indicates that neutrons added above N=40 strongly polarize Z=28 proton core. In Zn isotopic chain, steep rise values beyond continues up to...
