Effort investment during listening varies as a function of task demand and motivation. Several studies have manipulated both these factors to elicit measure changes in effort associated with listening. The cardiac pre-ejection period (PEP) is relatively novel the field cognitive hearing science. This measure, which reflects sympathetic nervous system activity on heart, has previously been implemented tone discrimination but not speech-in-noise task. Therefore, primary goal this study was...

Mental disorder is a change of mental or behavioral pattern that causes sufferings and impairs the ability to function in ordinary life. In psychopathology, assessment methods contain various types uncertainties associated with signs symptoms. This study identifies method addresses issue uncertainty assessing disorder. The fuzzy logic knowledge representation schema can address linguistic terms including ambiguity, imprecision, vagueness. However, incapable addressing due ignorance,...

Certain cardiovascular measures allow for distinction between sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system activity. Applied during listening, these may provide a novel complementary insight into listening effort. To date, few studies have implemented of effort seldom included hearing-impaired participants. These generally measured changes in parameters while manipulating environmental factors, such as difficulty. Yet, is also known to be moderated by individual including the importance...

In this study, the morphology of PPG signal has been analyzed to be a potential cardiovascular marker for physiological stress. The was quantified as quality index by comparing template beat (extracted from resting conditions) beats recorded during vigorous physical activity. Data taken eight subjects where they performed some activities ranging low high intensity. It found that, mean and standard deviation correlation coefficient between non-stress condition annotated beat, 89.43±5.17 (%)...

The hypothesis of the study is that Torsades de pointes (TdP) history can be better identified using T-wave morphology compared to Fridericia-corrected QT interval (QTcF) at baseline. ECGs were recorded baseline and during sotalol challenge in 20 patients with a TdP (+TdP) 16 without previous (-TdP). QTcF combination score (MCS) calculated. At baseline, there was no significant difference between groups (+TdP: = 446 ± 9 ms; -TdP: 431 ms, P 0.27). In contrast, MCS significantly different 1.07...

Objectives: Listening effort is moderated by not only task difficulty, but also success importance. In real communication scenarios, importance varies based upon the social context. However, in laboratory, it can be challenging to manipulate context without compromising experimental control.
