ABSTRACT We report the draft genome sequence of an extensively drug-resistant and metallo-beta-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli Ne7 strain isolated from a urinary tract infection patient. Under O8:H9 serotype F phylogenetic group, this had type ST648, five replicon plasmids, 16 virulence genes, 21 antibiotic resistance genes.

Helicobacter pylori can utilise amino acids as the sole carbon energy source. The present study demonstrated that H. grown in continuous culture a defined medium containing glucose and utilised alanine, arginine, asparagine, aspartate, glutamine, glutamate, proline serine. Specific asparaginase glutaminase enzymes deaminated asparagine glutamine respectively to aspartate with production of ammonia. activity was inhibited by 6-diazo-5-oxo-L-norleucine. All 13 strains tested produced both...

Background. Pyogenic ventriculitis is a well-known complication of meningitis, brain abscesses and intraventricular drains. Primary pyogenic rare entity few cases have been described so far. We report the first case primary in an adult caused by Neisseria meningitidis present overview all reported English literature. Methods. A PubMed search was performed using terms ependymitis, ventricular empyema, pyocephalus ventriculitis. Filter set for adults English. Articles which risk factors were...

Purpose: ABO blood group glycol-conjugate expression may influence human susceptibility to infection caused by Toxoplasma gondii . This study aimed assess the relationship between phenotypes as risk factors for toxoplasmosis and correlate prevalence of disease with other factors. Materials Methods: A total two-hundred serum samples were collected from pregnant women referred routine rotary examination in Rabak Teaching Hospital, White Nile State, Sudan, examined parasite using latex...

ABSTRACT A continuous-culture system (chemostat) was used to study the activities of β-lactam antimicrobial agents, clarithromycin, and 14-OH-clarithromycin against slowly growing Helicobacter pylori NCTC 11637. H. grown steady state before exposure these agents at ×8 MIC. The bactericidal actions combinations amoxicillin clarithromycin were also studied. Viable counts (numbers CFU per milliliter) determined 2-h intervals for 12 h 20 after addition antibiotics. effects pH changes (6.5 7.4)...

Presence of extremely drug resistant metallo-β-lactamase (MBL VIM) Pseudomonas aeruginosa in a patient presenting with 54% deep-dermal and full-thickness flame burns to her neck, chest, upper abdomen limbs, appeared coincide wound breakdown non-healing. This organism was also seen colonise the patient's gastrointestinal tract, which thought act as reservoir for re-infection wounds. Oral treatment probiotic drink (Yakult yoghurt) commenced order alter gut flora. Two weeks after this regimen...

A continuous culture system (chemostat) was used to study the post-antibiotic effect (PAE) of beta-lactams, against slowly-growing Helicobacter pylori NCTC 11637. H. grown at one quarter its maximum specific growth rate (mu(max)) before exposure ampicillin, amoxycillin, azlocillin, piperacillin or cefixime (8 x MIC). After 8 h, antibiotics were inactivated. Viable counts determine recovery pylori. The similar under antibiotic-free experimental conditions, so none beta-lactams studied showed a PAE

Introduction: The Legionellaceae are fastidious Gram‐negative bacteria that reside in aquatic environments. They a cause of severe community acquired pneumonia. Legionella pneumophila serogroup 1 is responsible for 70–90 % human infection, with cases caused by some the other 15 serogroups accounting rest. Most hospitals use urinary antigen test detection legionellosis; however, this will only reliably detect L. 1. Case presentation: We report two pneumonia patients requiring extracorporeal...
