ヨーロッパとアメリカの品種10(E群), 日本の品種20(J群)およびアジア各国で育成された多収品種16(H群)を供試し, 収量性の群間差を検討した. 総籾数(N)と籾容積(V)との積により収量キャパシティ(NV)を表し, 穂揃期までに稲体中に蓄積された炭水化物量(CW)と登熟期における乾物生産量(ΔW)との和で収量内容物(CW+ΔW)を表現した. (CW+ΔW)/NVをソース・シンク比とみなした. 平均収量(Y)はH群で最も多く, E群で最も少なかった. H群のNVとCW+ΔWはともに3群中最も大きかったが, ΔWはJ群と比べそれ程多くなかった. また, NVの増加がCW+ΔWの増加を上回っていたため, H群の(CW+ΔW)/NVはJ群に比べ低下した. しかし, H群は収量内容物の移行率[Ef:Y/(CW+ΔW)]が3群中最も高く, 籾比重(S:Y/NV)もJ群並に高かった. これらの結果は, H群の多収性が主に大きなNVとCWおよび高いEfに基づくことを示唆している. したがって, H群の収量性を一層高めるためには, ΔWの増加によるソース・シンク比の向上が必要と考えられた.
水稲における登熟性の品種間差を解析するために, 25品種の登熟歩合および精籾比重を比較した. 登熟歩合(Y)と出穂期後の積算平均気温(X)との関係は, 次の式によって表された. Y=100-a・exp(-b・X)常数bとX切片は品種によって異なっていた. そこで, この常数b×105を登熟係数(RI), X切片を登熟開始温度(∑Ts)とし, 登熟歩合(R)および精籾比重(S)との関係を検討した. RはRIと有意な正の相関関係を示し, Sと∑Tsとの間に有意な負の相関関係が認められた. さらに, 出穂期における茎葉中の貯蔵炭水化物量(C)と出穂期後の乾物生産量(ΔW)との和を収量内容物(C+ΔW), 総籾数(N)と精籾容積(V)との積を収量キャパシティ(NV)とし, これらとRIおよび∑Tsとの関係を検討した. 従来の日本品種10(日本品種群)およびアジア各国で育成された多収品種10(多収品種群)を供試し, 出液速度の品種間差を調査するとともに, 収量関連形質との関係を検討した.出穂期における出液速度(BR1)および成熟期における出液速度(BR2)は, それぞれ2.20(g時-1株-1)~3.92, 1.50~2.62の範囲にあった.BR1およびBR2に有意な品種群間差は認められなかったが, 1-BR2/BR1によって求めた登熟期間中の出液速度減少率は, 多収品種の方が日本品種よりも有意に高かった.BR1と総ファイトマー数(TPN)との間に有意な相関関係は認められなかったが, BR1とBR1/TPNとは有意な正の相関を示した.BR1と出穂期における茎葉乾物重(SDW)/TPNとの間にも有意な正の相関関係が存在した.登熟期間中の出液速度減少率は, 葉色の低下と有意な正の相関を示した.さらに, 出液速度減少率と登熟歩合との間には有意な負の相関関係が認められた.これらより, 出穂期後の葉色の低下が大きく出液速度の減少率が高い品種は根の活力低下が激しく, 登熟性に劣ると考えられた.
