Interfaces play an important role in crystalline plasticity as they affect strength and often serve obstacles to dislocation motion. Here we investigate effects of grain nanotwin boundaries on uniaxial 500 nm diameter Cu nanopillars fabricated by e-beam lithography electroplating. Uniaxial compression experiments reveal that is lowered introducing significantly rises when twin are present. Weakening likely due the activation grain-boundary-mediated processes, while impeding glide can be...

Ultra-low threshold lasers which operate in the telecommunications band and can be integrated with other CMOS compatible elements have numerous applications satellite communications, biochemical detection optical computing. To achieve sub-mW lasing thresholds, it is necessary to optimize both gain medium pump method. One of most promising methods use rare-earth ions a co- or tri-dopant configuration, where primary dopant enhanced by secondary one, thus improving efficiency overall system....

ObjectivesWe carried out a randomized multicentre study in China to investigate whether the clofazimine would improve efficacy of standardized regimen patients with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB).MethodsPatients MDR-TB managed 17 TB specialist hospitals between September 2009 and 2011 were randomly assigned treatment groups at enrolment. In intervention group, 100 mg per day was added regimen. The primary outcome proportion successful outcomes.ResultsFrom 156 that screened, 74...

Alternating layers of organic and oxide thin films used as diffusion barriers in emerging flexible device technologies are vulnerable to degradation under the influence mechanical stresses, temperature cycling, photodegradation, chemically active environmental species. Delamination internal interfaces often limits operational lifetime barrier system. We demonstrate a method for increasing adhesion by generating nanostructures at interface. show that an acrylate silicon model system can be...

Combined superoxide dismutase (SOD)/catalase mimetics have attracted much attention because of their efficacy against reactive oxygen species-associated diseases; however, application is often limited owing to poor stability and the absence favorable grafting sites. To address this, we developed a new class SOD/catalase based on hybrid nanoflowers, which exhibit superior possess desired sites for drugs endogenous molecules. In this work, first time, used polynitroxylated human serum albumin...

Abstract Following sustained development, numerous palaeontology databases and datasets of various types have been created. However, the lack a unified standard language to describe knowledge unclear sharing mechanisms between different has limited large‐scale integration application paleontological data. The graph, as key technology for semantic translation data fusion, offers possible solution these challenges. Given potential graphs overcome obstacles, this paper presents practical...

Concentrator photovoltaic (CPV) modules operate in extreme conditions, which poses a unique materials challenge for guaranteeing operational lifetimes of at least 25 years. The encapsulants used the optical elements are critically susceptible to environmental degradation during operation. We studied effects weatherings on adhesion using an outdoor concentrator operating excess 1100 times AM1.5 direct irradiance and chambers with broadband ultraviolet (UV) irradiation combined controlled...

An Erbium:Ytterbium codoped microcavity-based laser which is lithographically fabricated from sol-gel demonstrated. Both single-mode and multimode lasing observed in the C band (1550nm). The quality factor pump threshold are experimentally determined for a series of erbium ytterbium doping concentrations, verifying inter-dependent relationship between two dopants. optimized device 4.2 μW.
