Purpose: Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy (FEDC) is by far the most common diseases in Western countries, and 50% of keratoplasties are carried out to treat diseases. New treatments also emerging (Descemetorhexis only, rock‐inhibitors, mTor‐inhibitors, FGF‐1). It will therefore soon be vital able determine stage each patient a simple reliable way, order personalize treatment. Visual acuity, retroillumination, specular microscopy thickness mapping 4 pillars examination. However, current...

Aims/Purpose: Retroillumination observation of the anterior segment is a routine examination method as old slit lamp, but capturing good quality images difficult because patient glare, presence corneal and or lens reflections, limited resolution. We have modified lamp to overcome these limitations present first series obtained. Methods: On Topcon SL‐D7 we replaced light source with far‐red LED (Thorlabs, M780L3, 200 mW, 800 mA at 780 nm) added monochrome camera sufficient resolution (Baumer,...

While retro-illumination of the anterior segment is part routine examination in ophthalmology, capturing a quality image very difficult. We have therefore developed new imaging device by modifying slit lamp. By using far-red light source, monochrome sensor and modifications to optical path, we were able obtain high-resolution images, without reflection dazzling patient. Here, for first time, present number potential applications this revisited technique.

To report evidences that the abnormal endothelium of some Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD) present centripetal radial lines over 360 degrees.A case retroilluminated pictures 2 patients with FECD and flat mounts isolated Descemet membranes 1 patient healthy donor. Interpretation development a new pathophysiological theory. The 3 images unequivocally demonstrate existence very numerous degrees, in central 8 to 9 mm cornea ending area maximum guttae concentration. These resemble, much...
