In a recent article, Kelly [4] has been able to exhibit interesting equilibrium properties for wide class of ‘quasi-reversible’ queue networks. The paper considers a model for the transmission of bilharzia based on Macdonald's assumptions, in light data observed field. It is shown, particular, that threshold parameter governing whether or not an endemic cycle can be established closely related to proportion infected snails community, and this normally rather smaller than compatible with model. By considering more sophisticated models, allowing latent period infection snails, also spatial seasonal heterogeneity, effective from point...

Many models of epidemic spread have a common qualitative structure. The numbers infected individuals during the initial stages an can be well approximated by branching process, after which proportion that are susceptible follows more or less deterministic course. In this paper, we show both these features consequences assuming locally structure in models, and course itself determined from distribution limiting random variable associated with backward, susceptibility process. Examples...

Abstract The ability to manufacture ordered mesoporous materials using low-cost precursors and scalable processes is essential for unlocking their enormous potential enable advancement in nanotechnology. While templating-based methods play a central role the development of materials, several limitations exist conventional system design, including cost, volatile solvent consumption, attainable pore sizes from commercial templating agents. One way of analysing complicated Markov population processes is to approximate them by a diffusion about the deterministic path. This approximation alone may not, however, answer all questions which might reasonably be asked. Many have phases, for example near boundaries, where different required; such are better described succession and special approximations alternately. paper looks at treatment required point equations in equilibrium. When equilibrium unstable, process will eventually...

Stein's method is used to prove approximations in total variation the distributions of integer valued random variables by (possibly signed) compound Poisson measures. For sums independent variables, results obtained are very explicit, and improve upon earlier work Kruopis (1983) Čekanavičius (1997); coupling methods derive concrete expressions for error bounds. An example given illustrate potential application dependent variables.

Equations are derived describing a central limit type large population approximation for continuous time Markov lattice processes in one or more dimensions, such as commonly encountered biological models. A method of solving the equations using only deterministic solution process is explained, and it extended by use martingale argument to provide detailed information about process.

Fourteen bacterial strains isolated from turbot, Scophthalmus maximus (L.), larvae were screened for eicosapentaenoic acid (20:5 n-3) (EPA) production. Gas chromatography analysis revealed that one species, Vibrio pelagius, contained a high proportion of EPA in cellular lipid. This finding was confirmed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis. A higher concentration detected when the bacterium cultured at 4C.
