Our goal was to conduct a hemodynamic analysis of novel animal model Fontan physiology. Poor late-term outcomes in patients are believed arise from Fontan-induced hemodynamics, but the mechanisms remain poorly understood. Recent advances surgical experimentation have resulted development chronic sheep physiology; however, detailed this is lacking.

Whole blood analysis can evaluate numerous parameters, including pH, pCO₂, pO₂, HCO₃ - , base excess, glucose, electrolytes, lactate, urea nitrogen, creatinine, bilirubin, and hemoglobin. This valuable tool enables clinicians to make more informed decisions about patient care. However, the current body of literature describing perioperative whole in Dorset sheep (

ABSTRACT Dorset sheep ( Ovis aries ) are common models in translational cardiovascular research due to physiologic and anatomic similarities humans. While employing ovine subjects study single‐ventricle physiology, we repeatedly observed position‐based changes central venous pressure (CVP) which could not be explained by hydrostatic (gravitational) effects. Inferior vena cava (IVC) narrowing or compression has been demonstrated numerous species, hypothesised that this phenomenon might...

Introduction: Children born with single ventricle heart disease must undergo Fontan palliation. The lack of chronic preclinical animal models has limited the study significant end-organ complications that reduce quality and duration life. Here, we explore surgical strategies to improve survival in a model Methods: Sheep were divided based on approach: stage (SS) versus staged Fontan. Controls age/sex matched cohort. SS surgery consists Glenn, direct anastomosis SVC main pulmonary artery...
