Volcanic provinces are among the most active but least well understood landscapes on Earth. Here, we show that central Cascade arc, USA, exhibits systematic spatial covariation of topography and hydrology linked to aging volcanic bedrock, suggesting controls landscape evolution. At crest, a locus Quaternary volcanism, water circulates deeply through upper [Formula: see text]1 km crust transitions shallow dominantly horizontal flow as rocks age away from arc front. We argue this pattern...

The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) is a brief screening measure commonly used to determine cognitive status among older adults. Despite the popularity of MoCA, there has been little research into how performance on MoCA changes over time in healthy adults. The present study examined sample adults (n = 53) recruited for longitudinal aging. Change total score at three points (baseline, 12 months, and 48 months) scores from Repeatable Battery Neuropsychological Status five (RBANS; baseline...

This study investigated the impact of pretransplant cytomegalovirus (CMV) serostatus and posttransplant CMV reactivation disease on umbilical cord blood transplant (UCBT) outcomes. Between 1994 2007, 332 patients with hematologic malignancies underwent UCBT 54% were seropositive. Pretransplant recipient had no acute or chronic graft-versus-host (aGVHD, cGVHD), relapse, disease-free survival (DFS), overall (OS). There was a trend toward greater day 100 treatment-related mortality (TRM) in...

Persons with human immunodeficiency virus (PWH) are characterized by altered brain structure and function. As they attain normal lifespans, it has become crucial to understand potential interactions between (HIV) aging. However, remains unclear how aging varies viral load (VL).

This study examined the relative contribution of cognitive status to frailty among older individuals infected with HIV+.Participants included 122 HIV+ [mean age = 57.5 (6.6)] a median CD4 cell count 546. Undetectable viral load (<50 copies per mL) was observed in 94% sample. The sample defined as frail (n 21) and nonfrail 101) according Fried phenotype criteria. Cognitive tests measures executive function, motor/psychomotor, language, learning, memory. Performances were converted...

People living with HIV (PLWH) may be at higher risk for adverse outcomes indirectly associated the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). When comparing responses to questionnaires administered when social distancing and quarantine guidelines were first implemented, we found that PLWH more likely have restricted access medical care, increased financial stress, symptoms of anxiety depression, substance use compared demographically-similar people without HIV.

Background: Frailty is an important clinical concern for the aging population of people living with HIV (PLWH). The objective this study was to identify combination risk features that distinguish frail from nonfrail individuals. Setting: Machine learning analysis highly dimensional performed on a cohort PLWH. Methods: Participants included 105 older (average age = 55.6) PLWH, at least 3-month history antiretroviral therapy (median CD4 546). Predictors demographics, markers, comorbid health...
