Since 2009 pandemic, international health authorities recommended monitoring severe and complicated cases of respiratory disease, that is, acute infection (SARI) distress syndrome (ARDS). We evaluated the proportion SARI/ARDS deaths due to influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 impact other viruses during pandemic postpandemic period (2009–2011) in northern Italy; additionally we searched for unknown those which diagnosis remained negative. 206 samples were collected from analyzed by real-time RT-PCR/PCR...

Abstract We identified severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 RNA in an oropharyngeal swab specimen collected from a child with suspected measles early December 2019, ≈3 months before the first disease case Italy. This finding expands our knowledge on timing and mapping of novel transmission pathways.

Background/Aim: Chronic kidney disease (CKD), primarily caused by diabetes, predisposes patients to a high risk of systemic complications, including vascular ulcers. This study aimed evaluate the impact arterial ulcers in with CKD, particular attention predisposing factors diabetes and prevention strategies. Methods: A narrative literature review was conducted, adopting Scale for Assessment Narrative Review Articles (SANRA), using databases such as PubMed, CINAHL, Embase, Cochrane Library,...

Since late 2023, the Metropolitan City of Milan and surrounding areas (northern Italy) have been experiencing a resurgence measles, with most cases detected starting from January 2024. During this brief period, we observed measles in travellers endemic areas, participants international events, vaccinees healthcare workers. Indigenous also identified. Even though not yet identified large disruptive outbreaks, strengthening surveillance vaccination activities is pivotal to help limit impact spread.

Objective: It is unclear whether the ability to respond vaccines restored by antiretroviral therapy. We evaluated influenza-specific immune responses elicited a virosomal vaccine in HIV-infected children on long-term successful highly active therapy (HAART). Methods: This was an observational, prospective, open-label study enrolling 24 HIV-infected, HAART-treated (85 months' mean exposure), vaccine-naive (median age = 11.9 years) and 14 age- gender-matched healthy controls. Mean CD4 T-cell...

Despite the existence of an effective live-attenuated vaccine, measles can appear in vaccinated individuals. We investigated breakthrough cases identified during our surveillance activities within measles/rubella network (MoRoNet) Milan and surrounding areas (Northern Italy). Between 2017 2021, we confirmed virus (genotypes B3 or D8) infections 653 patients 51 these (7.8%) were vaccinees. Among individuals whose serum was available, a secondary failure evidenced 69.4% (25/36) while 11...

An outbreak of measles virus genotype B3 is ongoing in Milan and surrounding areas since February 2025, with 27 cases identified 32 laboratory-confirmed cases. Most were locally acquired young adults. Phylogenetic analysis indicated the presence a unique lineage closely related to strains circulating Morocco. The lack epidemiological links between several affected individuals suggests case numbers are being underestimated. continuous transmission raises concerns about potential...
