Summary This study describes right laryngeal hemiplegia (LH) and right‐sided Horner's syndrome (HS) in a horse. The average temperature of the face was 3.5°C higher on compared with left side, as determined by thermographic imaging. occurred following an episode mid‐cervical cellulitis due to inadvertent perijugular deposition gentamicin.
Hereditary myotonia (HM) is characterized by delayed muscle relaxation after contraction as a result of mutation in the CLCN1 gene. We describe here complex variant mixed-breed dog with clinical and electromyographic signs HM. Blood samples from myotonic dog, well his male littermate parents, were analyzed via amplification 23 exons encoding CLCN1. After sequencing gene, was found exon 6 c.[705T>G; 708del; 712_732del], resulting premature stop codon 7 protein that 717 amino acids shorter...
Summary Ingestion of food contaminated with slaframine, an alkaloid produced by Rhizoctonia leguminicola , causes a mycotoxicosis, characterised excessive salivation. Twenty‐eight horses demonstrated this clinical sign after the consumption alfalfa hay which on inspection showed dark patches many stems. The presence slaframine (1.5 ppm) in was confirmed gas chromatography and mass spectroscopy. This is first equine toxicosis case reported Brazil.
Background: Atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumor (AT/RT) is an aggressive malignant brain that, since it was first identified, has been treated with treatment regimens, e.g. high-dose chemotherapy stem cell rescue and early radiotherapy. We reviewed our experience because of concerns respect to treatment-related toxicity in patients. Methods: Seven patients a median age at presentation 18 months were diagnosed AT/RT between 1996 2006. Tumor location...
Background: Squamous cell carcinoma is a malignant neoplasm that originates from the keratinized stratified squamous epithelium and predominantly affect light-skinned animals. In dogs, breeds such as American Staffordshire Terriers, white or speckled Bull Beagles have higher predisposition. presents in skin, at slightly pigmented hairy sites, especially digits, but also may occur nasal planum, oral mucosa, rarely, eye. Considering few reports been published on eye neoplasms, aim of this...
With the purpose of shedding light on some doubts in veterinary oncology, present article intends to compare results histopathological and immunohistochemical examinations unspecific round cell neoplasia, realize immunophenotyping canine lymphoma cases, establish T or B origin neoplastic cells, determine degree proliferation apoptosis lymphomas by immunohistochemistry. Of 11 animals presenting diagnosis lymphoma, five had been diagnosed as Lymphoma HE staining slides six classified...
The brain stem auditory-evoked potential (BAEP) is an electrophysiologic test that detects and records the electrical activity in auditory system from cochlea to midbrain, generated after acoustic stimulus applied external ear. aim of this study obtain normative data for BAEP Dalmatian dogs order apply evaluation deafness other neurologic disorders. were recorded 30 a Brazilian study. Mean latencies waves I, III, V 1.14 (±0.09), 2.62 (±0.10), 3.46 (±0.14) ms, respectively. inter-peak I-III,...
ABSTRACT: Toxoplasmosis, neosporosis, and leishmaniasis are important diseases of worldwide distribution can affect both pets humans. Hunting dogs have been trained to hunt domestic wild animals, which makes them more exposed parasitic infections. The present study aimed evaluate the seroprevalence Toxoplasma gondii, Neospora caninum, Leishmania spp. in hunting from a rural area Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. Serum samples were collected 39 American Foxhound dogs, sex age variables recorded....
Background: In cats, arterial thromboembolism is one of the most devastating diseases, with an acute presentation, and often caused by undiagnosed cardiomyopathy. Defined as obstruction or more lumens emboli, responsible for hypoperfusion signs. As temperature skin surface directly related to tissue perfusion, thermography can be promising early diagnosis thromboembolism. Therefore, this study reports importance thermography a complementary examination in abdominal aorta domestic cat.Case: A...
ABSTRACT Mutant color alopecia is an ectodermical defection of dilution, characterized by partial alopecia, dry, shine-less hair, and peeling papule. Melanization damages also occur on the cortical structure affected hair. The animals have big melanin grains with irregular shape basal keratinocytes, hair matrix cells rod. Therefore, there not a specific treatment that makes any difference syndrome evolution. Although in some animals, it possible to use weekly showers benzyl peroxide reduce...

A 13‐year‐old female German Shepherd dog was euthanised and submitted to necropsy after a 7‐month history of prolonged recumbency vocalisation. Gross anatomical changes consisted well‐demarcated, 3.5×1.5 cm, soft red mass that effaced the right lateral ventricle compressed adjacent neuroparenchyma. Histologically, elongate neoplastic cells with astrocytic morphology were arranged in short bundles streams supported by neuropil‐like stroma. Neoplastic immunopositive for glial fibrillar acidic...
Prostaglandin F2? can be used in dogs to increase ejaculate volume cases of artificial insemination, semen cryopreservation or reproductive biotechnologies. Side effects after administration PGF2? as tachycardia, tachypnea, salivation, vomiting, diarrhea and seizures are usually dose- dependent. This paper reports the occurrence acute toxic hepatitis application a dog, discusses importance using this drug with caution dogs.
Brainstem auditory-evoked potential (BAEP) has been widely used for different purposes in veterinary practice and is commonly to identify inherited deafness presbycusis. In this study, 43 Boxer dogs were evaluated using the BAEP. Deafness was diagnosed 3 (2 bilateral 1 unilateral) allowing remaining 40 Boxers be included normative data analysis including an evaluation on influence of age The animals divided into 2 groups 20 each based age. mean 4.54 years (range, 1-8) group I, 9.83 8.5-12)...
At 4 months of age, a male dog was presented with complaint stiff gait following startle response. Neurological examination revealed no deficits, but clinical myotonia easily induced upon requesting the patient to jump. Additionally, upper lip muscles observed manipulation. Hereditary suspected, and electromyography confirmed presence myotonic potentials. Genetic testing identified complex mutations, including c.[1636_1639 delins AACGGG] c.[1644 A>T], both located in exon 15 CLCN1...
