This study aimed to characterize nanocellulose extracted from cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) linters. The was subjected electronic microscopy, thermal analysis, X-ray diffractometry, light scattering, and contact angle. properties of the are considerably different linter. acidic hydrolyses applied extract nanocrystals increased crystallinity index hydrophilicity decreased stability. On average, were 177 nm long 12 wide, with an aspect ratio 19 when measured by microscopy. scattering results...

Bacterial cellulose (BC) is a polymer with interesting physical properties owing to the regular and uniform structure of its nanofibers, which are formed by amorphous (disordered) crystalline (ordered) regions. Through hydrolysis strong acids, it possible transform BC into stable suspension nanocrystals, adding new functionality material. The aim this work was evaluate effects inorganic acids on production nanocrystals (BCNCs). Acid performed using different H2SO4 concentrations reaction...

Agricultural residues represent a disposal problem and biomass source for chemical production. Lignocellulosic composition varies in plants as function of several factors such physiological age tissue function. Banana pseudostem is large resource that usually wasted, spite the possibility it can be used organic compounds cellulose hemicelluloses. The aim this paper compare lignocellulosic content physicochemical properties different sheaths Pacovan banana pseudostems. trunk was divided into...

In this study, we have optimized production of bacterial cellulose (BC) by Komagataeibacter hansenii ATCC 23769 in a static cultivation using sisal juice, an agroindustrial residue, as substrate. Optimization fermentation parameters has been carried out the one-variable-at-a-time method. Effect initial sugar concentration, pH, nitrogen supplement, and time was evaluated. The influence source quantity for studied central composite rotational design (CCRD).The highest BC (3.38 g/L) obtained...

To investigate the effects of Agave sisalana (A. sisalana) extract on Aedes aegypti (Ae. aegypti) primary cell culture. Cells Ae. were exposed to different concentrations A. crude (0.18–6.00 mg/mL) for 24 h. Then, cells labeled with propidium iodide and subjected fluorescence microscopy verify viability. In addition, nitric oxide production was measured. Results showed that 6 mg/mL presented a greater percentage death when compared control (73.8% ± 9.6% vs. 34.6% 9.6%). Furthermore, there an...

Abstract BACKGROUND Corn zein is a predominatly hydrophobic protein, forming films with relatively good water resistance. Tannic acid, especially in its oxidized form, supposed to cross‐link proteins including zein, which may be explored further enhance the resistance of films. The effects different contents (0–8 wt%) unoxidized and tannic acid ( uTA oTA , respectively) on properties at pH values (4–9) were studied, according central composite designs. RESULTS Increasing resulted decreased...

Gelatin from the scale of Nile tilapia was extracted and characterized chemically, thermally, structurally. Scales were subjected to acid pretreatment extraction with water at 60°C. The process yielded 12.1% (m/m) on a dry basis. 6.67% gelatin solution had gel strength 233.5 ± 14g. amino composition revealed that 20.02% comprised imino acids glycine (34.49%) as most abundant acids. α1, α2, β subunits thermally stable up 200ºC. Fourier transform infrared spectrum showed absorption in regions...

Biodegradable compounds of poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL)/ cotton linter were melting mixed with filling content ranging from 1% to 5% w/w. Cotton is an important byproduct textile industry; in this work it was used raw state and after acid hydrolysis. According the results torque rheometry no decaying viscosity took place during compounding, evidencing absence breaking down molecular weight. The thermal stability increased by 20% as observed HDT for PCL/cotton nanolinter compounds. Adding PCL...
