Abstract Background Men who have sex with men (MSM) are disproportionally affected by sexually transmitted infections (STI). STI often extragenital and asymptomatic. Both can delay diagnosis treatment. Approval of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) might influenced sexual behaviour STI-prevalence HIV- MSM. We estimated risk factors amongst HIV+ MSM in Germany to plan effective interventions. Methods conducted a nationwide, cross-sectional study between February July 2018. Thirteen...
By 22 June 2022, 521 cases of monkeypox were notified in Germany. The median age was 38 years (IQR: 32–44); all men. In Berlin, where 69% occurred, almost men who have sex with Monkeypox virus likely circulated unrecognised Berlin before early May. Since mid-May, we observed a shift from travel-associated infections to mainly autochthonous transmission that predominantly took place often association visits clubs and parties.
Epidemiological data are crucial to monitoring progress towards the 2030 Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) elimination targets. Our aim was estimate prevalence of chronic HCV infection (cHCV) in European Union (EU)/European Economic Area (EEA) countries 2019. Multi-parameter evidence synthesis (MPES) used produce national estimates cHCV defined as: π = πrecρrec + πexρex πnonρnon; πrec, πex, and πnon represent among recent people who inject drugs (PWID), ex-PWID, non-PWID, respectively, while ρrec,...
Abstract Background People who inject drugs (PWID) are at high risk of blood-borne infections, and injection drug use contributes significantly to hepatitis C virus (HCV) transmission. The WHO has therefore set targets reducing HCV incidence prevalence among PWID increasing treatment coverage eliminate by 2030. DRUCK study (2011–2014) found low in Germany. To assess progress the elimination PWID, we conducted a cross-sectional two German federal states that piloted future monitoring. Methods...
Abstract Background To reach the global elimination goals of viral hepatitis B and C (HBC, HCV), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) other sexually transmitted infections as a public health threat by 2030, monitoring is needed. Staff members drug services opioid substitution treatment (OST) practices in Berlin Bavaria recruited clients for pilot study addressing respective among people who injected drugs (PWID) Germany, 2021/2022. Participants filled questionnaire were tested HBV, HCV, HIV...
Interruption of transmission chains has been crucial in the COVID-19 response. The Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) at Robert Koch Institute (RKI) coordinated cross-border case and contact tracing activities national level by sharing data with German public health authorities (PHA) other countries. Data on these were not collected surveillance system, thus challenging to quantify. Our aim was describe including lessons learnt PHA adapt procedures accordingly.Case events recorded using...
Since May 2016, infection and colonisation with carbapenem non-susceptible Acinetobacter spp. (CRA) Enterobacterales (CRE) have to be notified health authorities in Germany. The aim of our study was assess the epidemiology CRA CRE from 2017 2019 Germany, identify risk groups determine geographical differences notifications.
In 2016, the World Health Organization (WHO) released a strategy to eliminate hepatitis B, C, and D defined indicators monitor progress. The Robert Koch Institute organized an interdisciplinary working meeting in 2019 identify data sources gaps. The objectives were network, create overview of available Germany on B discuss how construct indicators. We extracted WHO relevant for determined they can be constructed basis data. Stakeholders from public health services, clinics, laboratories,...
IntroductionThe Robert Koch Institute (RKI) managed the exchange of cross-border contact tracing data between public health authorities (PHA) in Germany and abroad during early COVID-19 pandemic.AimWe describe extent its challenges.MethodsWe analysed events from 3 February to 5 April 2020 using information exchanged through European Early Warning Response System communication with International Health Regulation national focal points. We described by PHA, number contacts exposure...
Background: In August 2015, 17 neonates with Enterobacter cloacae (E. ) colonization were identified in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) Germany. Two developed severe brain abscesses. Despite temporary NICU closure September, another infant E. was detected October 2015. Methods: We defined potential cases as inpatients treated the or any pediatric/maternity ward 2015 specimen before molecular typing. Cases at first confirmed by arbitrarily-primed-polymerase-chain-reaction and later...
Abstract Background: Despite being considered as a low prevalence country for hepatitis B (HBV), some populations in Germany are at higher risk of infection. In the context World Health Organization’s (WHO) viral elimination goals valid epidemiological data base is needed to plan and monitor national response. Prevention strategies include general targeted HBV vaccination programmes. Objective: The aim this work was estimate coverage (VC) population (GP) different groups from available...

Background
Data on Mycoplasma genitalium (MG) in female sex workers (FSW) is scarce. FSW without regular contact to public health services may be at high risk for STI. Amongst other STI, we measured prevalence of MG among their workplace identify most vulnerable subgroups and plan effective interventions.
Methods
Outreach-workers screened Berlin, Hamburg, North Rhine-Westphalia using self-collected vaginal swabs. Swabs were analysed by TMA (APTIMA® assay, RUO). We...

Background
In Germany, few data exist about the prevalence of STI in female sex workers (FSW). Especially hard-to-reach populations without regular contact to health services may be at high risk for STI. We measured CT, NG and TV among FSW their workplace order evaluate whether these tests should routinely offered this population.
Methods
Specialised outreach-workers local public authorities (LPHA) screened North Rhine-Westfalia respective on basis self-collected vaginal...

Background
Chlamydia (CT), gonococci (NG) or trichomonas (TV) infections are not notifiable in Germany. Only few prevalence data exist for the general population. We measured CT, NG and TV clients attending local public health authorities (LPHA) offering anonymous HIV tests to evaluate whether these should be routinely offered this
Methods
LPHA North Rhine-Westphalia screened genital with on basis of self-collected vaginal swabs (women) urine samples (men), using...
