Background — Recent reports have detected an increase in the number of patients with acute coronary syndromes during flu season. In addition, World Health Organization recommended vaccination against influenza infection for Southern hemisphere winter 2001.We evaluated preventive impact on subsequent ischemic events myocardial infarction and subjects undergoing planned percutaneous angioplasty. Methods Results We included 200 admitted first 72 hours 101 angioplasty/stent (PCI) without...
We retrospectively compared 257 consecutive patients undergoing TAVR with self-expandable valves using either CON (n = 101) or COVL 156) in four intermediate/low volume centers. There were no significant differences baseline characteristics between the groups. The 30-day incidence of new-onset LBBB (12.9% vs. 5.8%; p=0.05) and PPMI rate (17.8% 6.4%; p=0.004) was significantly lower when implantation view. difference groups death (4.9% 2.6%), any stroke (0% 0.6%), need for surgical aortic...
Background and Purpose — Fear of distal embolization stroke has aroused concern regarding carotid stenting. Devices to protect the cerebral circulation may make stenting safer. Methods A multidisciplinary study group tested a balloon occlusion-aspiration emboli entrapment device in conjunction with The consists an elastomeric on steerable wire detachable adapter that inflates deflates temporary occlusion balloon. An aspiration catheter is used remove trapped after before deflation. Results...
The IN.PACT Global Study is the largest prospective, multicenter, independently adjudicated trial to evaluate a paclitaxel drug-coated balloon in patients with lifestyle-limiting claudication and/or ischemic rest pain due atherosclerotic disease of femoropopliteal artery and includes complex lesions beyond what are typically included randomized controlled trials. Randomized trials have demonstrated safety efficacy balloons for treatment Trans-Atlantic Inter-Society Consensus Document II A B...

Transcatheter heart valve (THV) implantation in failed bioprosthetic valves (valve-in-valve [ViV]) offers an alternative therapy for high-risk patients. Elevated post-procedural gradients are a significant limitation of aortic ViV. Our objective was to assess the relationship between depth and haemodynamics.Commercially available THVs used ViV were included analysis (CoreValve Evolut, SAPIEN XT Portico valve). implanted small surgical (label size 19 mm) simulate boundary conditions....
Aims Limited data exist on radial access in carotid artery stenting (CAS). This single‐center study was performed to compare the outcome and complication rates of transradial (TR) transfemoral (TF) CAS. Methods Results The clinical angiographic 775 consecutive patients with high risk for endarterectomy, treated between 1999 2016 by CAS cerebral protection, were evaluated. Patients divided into 2 groups according vascular access: TR (n = 101; 13%) TF 674). Primary combined end‐point:...
Background The FiGARO (FFR versus iFR in Assessment of Hemodynamic Lesion Significance, and an Explanation Their Discrepancies) trial is a prospective registry searching for predictors fractional flow reserve/instantaneous wave‐free ratio (FFR/iFR) discrepancy. Methods Results FFR/iFR were analyzed using Verrata wire, coronary reserve was Combomap machine (both Philips‐Volcano). risk polymorphisms endothelial nitric oxide synthase heme oxygenase‐1 analyzed. In total, 1884 measurements from...
We report our experience using transradial access (TRA) for carotid artery stenting (CAS). Eighty-eight patients underwent CAS a nonfemoral approach, 79 of them by TRA. Carotid was performed standard techniques with long hydrophilic sheath. Mean age 69.5 years. A total 46 were symptomatic and 34 asymptomatic. Transradial procedural success achieved in 98.8% 96.6% the cases, respectively. There no deaths, myocardial infarction, or radial site complications. In all, 2 sustained stroke, 1...
Objectives We aimed to assess safety and, secondarily, the efficacy of intramyocardial high‐dose plasmid‐vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) 165 (pVEGF165) gene transfer in no‐option patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Background Controlled trials pVEGF165 CAD have shown little benefit. One possible reason is shortness dosage. large mammalian models chronic myocardial ischemia and acute infarction that at doses significantly higher than those used recent phase II safe...
Executive functions are crucial for organizing and integrating cognitive processes. While some studies have assessed the effect of carotid artery stenting (CAS) on functioning, results been conflicting. The object this study was to assess CAS status, with special interest executive functions, among patients severe asymptomatic internal (ICA) stenosis. The authors prospectively neuropsychological status 20 unilateral extracranial ICA stenosis 60% or more by using a comprehensive assessment...
To assess the results of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) using Medtronic CoreValve prosthesis (Medtronic, Minneapolis, MN), without balloon predilation, in high-risk patients with degenerated severe stenosis.Fifty-one consecutive who underwent direct TAVI, 98% through a transfemoral approach. Patients were 79 ± 8 years age, 74% New York Heart Association classes III or IV and at high risk for surgical replacement (mean logistic EuroScore 20 15). Mean area was 0.7 0.2 cm(2)....
Background: The non-invasive estimation of aortic systolic (aoSBP) and pulse pressure (aoPP) is achieved by a great variety devices, which differ markedly in the: 1) principles recording (applied technology), 2) arterial site, 3) model mathematical analysis applied to signals, and/or 4) calibration scheme. most reliable procedure obtain aoSBP aoPP not well established. Aim: To evaluate the agreement between values invasively non-invasively obtained using different: techniques (tonometry,...
Abstract Concurrent severe carotid and cardiac disease is a challenging situation where staged surgery probably the most common strategy, although it still controversial. We report in‐hospital midterm outcome of 30 patients who received stenting synchronous surgery. All under aspirin regular unfractioned heparin (UFH) were immediately transferred to operating room for coronary and/or valve clopidogrel once bleeding was ruled out, after In‐hospital complications were: three surgical related...
Studies on cardiac regeneration require large mammalian models of dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) after acute myocardial infarction (AMI), and pig sheep are increasingly used in this field preclinical research. Given the interindividual variability ovine left anterior descending artery (LAD) anatomy, protocols based coronary arteries to be ligated often lead significant variation infarct sizes hence heterogeneous results, ranging from no ventricular remodeling acute, lethal (LV) failure. We...
Chronic cerebrospinal venous insufficiency (CCSVI) was recently described in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). The hypothesis of the vascular aetiology provides a new approach investigation and treatment MS.Our open-label study included 94 MS who fulfilled ultrasound sonographic criteria required for CCSVI. internal jugular and/or azygous veins by catheter venography were dilated. In 34.8% unilateral, 65.2% bilateral abnormalities 2.1% no luminal obstructions demonstrated. patient group...
