Immune dysfunction underlies the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Immunosuppressive therapy is standard care for these diseases. Both immune therapy-related immunosuppression can inhibit cancer-related surveillance in this population. Drug-induced a risk factor nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC), particularly squamous cell tumors. For patients with history NMSC, data are limited on effect drugs additional NMSCs.

Recent evidence has linked childhood antibiotic use and microbiome disturbance to autoimmune conditions. This study tested the hypothesis that exposure was associated with newly diagnosed juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA).We performed a nested case-control in population-representative medical records database from United Kingdom. Children JIA were compared age- gender-matched control subjects randomly selected general practices containing at least 1 case, excluding those inflammatory bowel...

Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) are inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) that compromise quality of life may increase mortality. This study compared the mortality risk with prolonged corticosteroid use vs. antitumor necrosis factor-α (anti-TNF) drugs in IBD.A retrospective cohort was conducted among Medicaid Medicare beneficiaries from 2001 to 2013 IBD prescribed either >3,000 mg prednisone or equivalent within a 12-month period new initiation anti-TNF therapy, each treated as...

BACKGROUND Delays in advancing to biologic therapies are associated with adverse outcomes inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Insurer-mandated prior authorizations have been linked prolonged medication initiation times. We hypothesized that time and increased IBD-related healthcare utilization among children IBD. METHODS performed a retrospective cohort study of 190 pediatric patients IBD initiating biologics at tertiary care hospital measure the association between authorization, (physician...

Background Several prior studies have found an association between statin use and reduced risk of colorectal cancer. We hypothesized that these findings may be due to systematic bias examined the independent cancer with use, serum cholesterol, change in cholesterol concentration. Methods Findings 22,163 cases 86,538 matched controls 1995 2013 were identified within The Health Improvement Network (THIN) a population-representative database. Conditional logistic regression models estimated...

Intestinal microbial dysbiosis, intestinal inflammation, and Th17 immunity are all linked to the pathophysiology of spondyloarthritis (SpA); however, mechanisms linking them remain unknown. One potential hypothesis suggests that dysbiotic gut microbiome as a whole produces metabolites influence human immune cells. To identify disease-relevant, microbiome-produced metabolites, we performed metabolomics screening shotgun metagenomics on paired colon biopsies fecal samples, respectively, from...

Objective Spondyloarthritis (SpA) is the most common extraintestinal manifestation of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The application screening tools to detect SpA in patients with IBD may lead earlier recognition and affect treatment decisions. Methods A combination two previously described questionnaires, DETAIL IBIS‐Q, was administered consecutive attending specialty clinics six U.S. academic medical centers. Demographic data, rheumatology history were extracted by chart review. Results...

Background/Aim: Spondyloarthritis (SpA), the most common extra-intestinal manifestation of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), is reported in up to 39% patients with IBD. Despite this high prevalence, risk factors for developing SpA IBD are not well described. In study, we aimed determine associated symptoms and their prevalence an cohort. Methods: Two validated screening questionnaires detection (DETAIL = DETection Arthritis Inflammatory boweL diseases, IBIS-Q Identification Questionnaire)...

The aim of this study was examine the rates breast in patients with immune‐mediated disease and treated who received therapy methotrexate, thiopurines, or anti–tumor necrosis factor (anti‐TNF). Abstract Background Prescription drugs are a central component of healthcare worldwide. We investigated changes in drug‐prescribing patterns over time the general population. Methods Secular trends were analyzed using 1999–2012 prescription data from The Health Improvement Network. Prevalence receipt medication prescriptions was computed by age, sex, and therapeutic category for each calendar year. Spearman correlations to assess change time. Results Between 1999 2012, percentage population...
