Pupil responses are known to indicate brain processes involved in perception, attention and decision-making. They can provide an accessible biomarker of human memory performance cognitive states general. Here we investigated changes the pupil size during encoding recall word lists. Consistent patterns response were found across within distinct phases free task. The was most constricted initial fixation phase gradually more dilated through subsequent encoding, distractor task, as items...
Introduction: Cathodal transcranial direct current stimulation (C-tDCS) is a potential neuroprotective method in the hyperacute phase of ischemic stroke. In rodent models, C-tDCS reduced final infarct volume and improved functional outcome. Our aim was to assess safety, tolerability, feasibility, efficacy stroke patients with salvageable penumbra. Methods: study single-center, double-blind, randomized, sham-controlled (3 active: 1 sham), 3+3 dose-escalation trial. Inclusion criteria were due...
Cardiovascular diseases are one of most frequent cause morbidity and mortality in the world. There is an emerging need for integrated, non-invasive, easy-to-use clinical tools to assess accurately cardiovascular system primarily preventative medicine. We present a novel design non-invasive pulse wave velocity (PWV) assessment method integrated single brachial blood pressure monitor allowing up 100 times more sensitive recording pulsations based on occlusion-cuff (suprasystolic) principle....
The gold standard for noninvasive blood pressure (BP) measurement, the Doppler technique, does not provide systolic (SBP) and diastolic (DBP) may limit therapy outcomes. To improve patient care, we tested specifically designed experimental BP (ExpBP) monitor technique by comparing measures to intraarterial (I-A) in 31 patients with end-stage heart failure (4 females) 2.6 ± 3.4 days post-LVAD implantation (20 HeartMate II 11 HeartWare). Bland-Altman plots revealed that ExpBP overestimated...
Abstract Systemic arterial blood pressure (BP) is one of the most important parameters cardiovascular system. An oscillometric NIBP monitor was specifically designed to measure pulsations and mean (MAP) during inflation deflation cuff. Nineteen healthy young (age 23.1±1.7 years; mean±SD) 35 elderly (83.9±7.9 subjects were studied. Differential analysis MAP show |ΔMAP|=2.9±2.6 mm Hg in group (mean±SD) |ΔMAP|=6.3±5.2 for seniors (mean±SD). There a significant difference (p<0.05) means...
Tinnitus is an intrusive and chronic illness affecting a significant portion of the population, decreasing affected individuals' quality life socioeconomic functioning. Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) non-invasive neuromodulatory method utilizing weak electrical currents to elicit short long-term central nervous system changes. Several studies have proven its effect on tinnitus. We aimed broaden knowledge provide data retention. In randomized, double-blinded, sham-controlled...
Results obtained by the modern automatic blood pressure (BP) monitors using oscillometric method are highly dependent on conditions of cardiovascular system monitored person. Especially, with people who suffer from diseases (e.g. aterosclerosis) resulting values differ significantly those measured traditional auscultation method. A reasonable solution for improvement quality could be a sophisticated intelligent BP measuring which applies evaluation more complex approach taking into account...
Cardiac output (CO) assessment as a basic hemodynamic parameter has been of interest in exercise physiology, cardiology, and anesthesiology. Noninvasive techniques available are technically challenging, thus difficult to use outside clinical or laboratory setting. We propose novel method noninvasive CO using single, upper-arm cuff. The uses the arterial pressure pulse wave signal acquired from brachial artery during 20-s intervals suprasystolic occlusion. This was evaluated cohort 12 healthy...
We describe a case of right-handed, 42-year-old, Caucasian female patient who manifested set unusual adverse effects during maintenance ultrabrief right-unilateral electroconvulsive therapy (ECT)-generalized myoclonic secondary seizure with lateralization nonresponsive to repeated intravenous diazepam application, deviation the tongue and head left, ping-pong gaze nystagmoid jerks, postictal hypoactive confusion state lasting 15 minutes (with total time recovery 30 minutes), likely Todd's...
Cardiovascular disease is the most common cause of death in developed countries. Blood measurement an integral part diagnosis these diseases. With development oscillometric blood pressure monitors, question regular monitoring their clinical accuracy (overall error) has arisen. This paper deals with overall two commercial tonometers (Hartmann Digital HG 160 comfort and HuBDIC HBP–1520), using calibrated simulators (Fluke BP Pump 2 Fluke ProSim). Using Wilcoxon rank-sum test, significant...
Long-term use of continuous-flow left ventricular assist devices may have negative consequences for autonomic, cardiovascular and gastrointestinal function. It has thus been suggested that non-invasive monitoring arterial pulsatility in patients with a device is highly important ensuring patient safety longevity. We developed novel, semi-automated frequency-domain-based index obtained during suprasystolic occlusions the upper arm: 'cuff index'.The purpose this study was to evaluate...
The standard ISO 81060–2:2018 allows the use of invasive blood pressure monitoring systems as reference gauges in clinical trials automated non-invasive sphygmomanometers. measuring system is subject to requirements for a maximum permissible error ±2 mmHg, and resonant frequency damping coefficient must also be characterized. 'catheter-sensor' used practice only has defined parameters required by chamber with sensor. characteristic whole cannot even when type catheter known, because after...
The paper deals with the design of method for primary screening atherosclerosis based on hemodynamic parameters. combines sensing blood pressure using two-cuffs system plethysmography and electro-cardiography signals. designed provides not only measurement as a standard parameter cardiovascular system, but also several parameters such pulse wave velocity (PWV) or arterial stiffness index (ASI). realization device measuring given above are described in paper.
