Abstract Background Although immune modulation is a promising therapeutic avenue in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the most relevant targets remain to be found. COVID-19 has peculiar characteristics and outcomes, suggesting unique immunopathogenesis. Methods Thirty-six immunocompetent non-COVID-19 27 patients with severe pneumonia were prospectively enrolled single center, requiring intensive care. Clinical biological (including T cell phenotype function plasma concentrations of 30...

Insulin resistance (IR) in the context of highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) is becoming more common HIV-infected patients. Patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection have an increased risk IR and type 2 diabetes mellitus. A cross-sectional study was performed to investigate whether HCV constitutes a factor for HIV-HCV-coinfected patients undergoing HAART. Inclusion criteria were positive viremia sustained increase alanine aminotransferase at least twice normal value....

AbstractPurpose: Adherence to antiretroviral medications is critically important for the success of therapy in patients treated HIV infection. Patient self-report a simple method measure and explore adherence. Even though variety surveys have been developed monitor self-reported adherence, there no standardized instrument that may be used routine clinical practice. The usefulness Medication Questionnaire (PMAQ) was evaluated HIV-infected on protease inhibitor (PI)-containing regimens....

OBJECTIVES--To compare the tolerance, efficacy, and pharmacokinetics of amphotericin deoxycholate (Fungizone) prepared in a parenteral fat emulsion (Intralipid 20%) or glucose HIV patients with candidiasis. DESIGN--Non-blind randomised controlled trial. SETTING--University hospital; tertiary clinical care. PATIENTS--22 positive oral INTERVENTIONS--Amphotericin 1 mg/kg/day given on four consecutive days as one hour infusion dissolved either 5% (amphotericin-glucose) at final concentration 2...

ABSTRACT We report a case of cryptococcosis in which serum enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for Aspergillus galactomannan was positive, with no evidence aspergillosis. Soluble antigens from 19 Cryptococcus neoformans strains and purified carbohydrates C. capsule were thus assayed the ELISA. Antigens all strains, galactoxylomannan, gave positive reaction, suggesting that galactoxylomannan contains an epitope(s) is cross-reactive galactomannan.

There is currently a lack of consensus for the diagnosis, investigations and treatments acute bacterial prostatitis (AP).The symptoms, 371 inpatients diagnosed with AP were analyzed through retrospective study conducted in four departments - Urology (U), Infectious Diseases (ID), Internal Medicine (IM), Geriatrics (G) two French university hospitals. The cause admission, depended markedly on department admission but not hospital. Current recommendations for empirical antimicrobial therapy in spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) are based on quite old trials. Since microbial epidemiology and the management of patients have changed, whether these still appropriate must be confirmed. An observational study that exhaustively collected clinical biological data associated with positive ascitic fluid cultures was conducted four French university hospitals 2010–2011. Two hundred sixty-eight documented were observed 190...

Infective endocarditis (IE)(1) is a severe condition complicating 10–25% of Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia. Although host-related IE risk factors have been identified, the involvement bacterial features in complication still unclear. We characterized strictly defined and bacteremia isolates searched for discriminant features. S. causing community-acquired, definite native-valve (n = 72) 54) were collected prospectively as part French multicenter cohort. Phenotypic traits previously...

Adherence was estimated from a score calculated answers self-administered questionnaire on basis measurement relevant blood levels. Of patients, 112 had virologic response, 122 adequate trough PI Plasma levels outcome significantly...

A ten day course of oral penicillin is still recommended for pharyngotonsillitis with the aim eradicating Streptococcus pyogenes and preventing rheumatic fever. However there some evidence that V therapy less satisfactory than in former years. Several explanations have been suggested, including inadequate pharmacokinetic properties, poor patient compliance, tolerance, re-infection carrier state, indirect pathogenicity. In this context we evaluated efficacy third generation cephalosporins. We...
