We present a comprehensive phylogeny derived from 5 genes, nucSSU, nucLSU rDNA, TEF1, RPB1 and RPB2, for 356 isolates 41 families (six newly described in this volume) Dothideomycetes. All currently accepted orders the class are represented first time addition to numerous previously unplaced lineages.Subclass Pleosporomycetidae is expanded include aquatic order Jahnulales. An ancestral reconstruction of basic nutritional modes supports transitions saprobic life histories plant associated...

Abstract The family Sporormiaceae (Pleosporales, Dothideomycetes, Ascomycota) occur worldwide and a majority of the species are coprophilous. taxonomy classification based on small number morphological ecological characters. Several taxa easily confused by their shared features, relationships between genera poorly known in need critical study. aims this study were to resolve phylogenetic within Sporormiaceae, test current generic classification, utility traditional characters for group. To...

The order Sordariales is taxonomically diverse, and harbours many species with different lifestyles large economic importance. Despite its importance, a robust genome-scale phylogeny, associated comparative genomic analysis of the lacking. In this study, we examined whole-genome data from 99 Sordariales, including 52 newly sequenced genomes, seven outgroup taxa. We inferred comprehensive phylogeny that resolved several contentious relationships amongst families in order, cleared-up...

Abstract We have developed a reliable technique for extracting DNA from single microscopic fungal thalli, including efficient cell disruption and transfer of content subsequent polymerase chain reaction ( PCR ). The was primarily members the ascomycete order Laboulbeniales, which are minute fungi with tough walls that exceedingly difficult to disrupt standard extraction techniques. Our method makes routine amplification thalli possible, even small species or poorly individuals. release is...

To study position specificity in the insect-parasitic fungal genus Coreomyces (Laboulbeniaceae, Laboulbeniales), we sampled corixid hosts (Corixidae, Heteroptera) southern Scandinavia. We detected thalli five different positions on hosts.Thalli from various grouped four distinct clusters resulting gene trees, distinctly so ITS and LSU of nuclear ribosomal DNA, less SSU DNA mitochondrial DNA.Thalli left side abdomen a single cluster, did ventral right side.Thalli mid-ventral turned out to be...

The filamentous fungus Podospora anserina has been used as a model organism for more than 100 years and proved to be an invaluable resource in numerous areas of research. Throughout this period, P. embroiled number taxonomic controversies regarding the proper name under which it should called. most recent treatment proposed change important species Triangularia . results past changes indicate that broader research community is unlikely accept change, will lead nomenclatural instability...

Cainiella is an ascomycete genus associated with arctic alpine plants. The systematic position of has long been unclear, current classifications placing the in either Sordariales or Xylariales. Our molecular results, based on mtSSU, ITS and nLSU rDNA data, clearly show that belongs Sydowiellaceae (Diaporthales). study also includes new sequences contributes to a better knowledge phylogenetic relationships family.

The focus of this study is on Preussia sensu lato species with 8-celled ascospores. Two new species, P. alpina and octocylindrospora are introduced based morphological characters discussed in relation to similar the genus. New records provided from Sporormiella corynespora, S. octomegaspora, octomera octonalis. This greatly expands or reduces their geographical distribution ranges, as well substrate preferences. In addition, a key coprophilous ascospores provided.

The genus Coreomyces (Laboulbeniaceae, Laboulbeniomycetes, Ascomycota) includes minute parasites on water boatmen (Corixidae, Hemiptera, Insecta). This taxonomic study is primarily based freshly sampled corixids infected by from Sweden, although a few samples Denmark and Turkey were also included. All records verified using DNA sequence data the internal transcribed spacer region large subunit of nuclear ribosomal repeat region. We recognise four species, two which are new to science:...
