This investigation presents nitride-based near ultraviolet light emitting diodes (LEDs) with a meshed p-GaN layer. We demonstrated the formation of GaN-based nanorod (NR) structure by using self-assemble Ni nanoislands as etching mask. It was found that crystal quality GaN epilayer prepared on an NR template significantly better than with a conventional low-temperature nucleation layer.
