In this study, we use barcoded pyrosequencing of the 16S rRNA gene to characterize fecal microbiota neonatal calves and identify possible relationships certain profiles with health weight gain. Fecal samples were obtained weekly from 61 birth until weaning (seventh week calves' life). Firmicutes was most prevalent phylum, a prevalence ranging 63.84% 81.90%, followed by Bacteroidetes (8.36% 23.93%), Proteobacteria (3.72% 9.75%), Fusobacteria (0.76% 5.67%), Actinobacteria (1.02% 2.35%). Probiotics are a promising alternative to improve food animal productivity and health. However, scientific evidence that specific microbes can be used benefit health performance is limited. In this study we evaluate the efficacy of five vaccine formulations containing different combinations proteins (FimH; leukotoxin, LKT; and pyolysin, PLO) and/or inactivated whole cells (Escherichia coli, Fusobacterium necrophorum, Trueperella pyogenes) in preventing postpartum uterine diseases. Inactivated were produced using two genetically distinct strains each bacterial species (E. F. T. pyogenes). FimH PLO subunits recombinant protein expression, LKT was recovered from culturing a wild...

The goal of our study was to isolate and characterize Faecalibacterium prausnitzii from fecal samples healthy calves piglets, in order develop a novel probiotic for livestock animals. Although antimicrobial drugs are central to combat disease in modern medicine, the use of these can have undesired consequences for human and animal health. One consequence is post-therapy excretion pharmacological agents, such as elimination drug residues at very low concentrations milk lactating mammals. Limited information currently available on impact from exposure gut microbiota using vivo natural models. The objective our study was address this knowledge gap evaluate effect fecal...

Feeding drug residue-containing milk to calves is common worldwide and no information currently available on the impact functional profile of fecal microbiota. Our objective was characterize microbiota preweaned dairy fed raw with residual concentrations antimicrobials commonly found in waste from birth weaning. Calves were assigned a controlled feeding trial being residues or antibiotic residues. Fecal samples collected each calf once week starting at birth, prior first trial, until 6 weeks...

Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate the longitudinal effect enrofloxacin or tulathromycin use in calves at high risk bovine respiratory disease (BRD) on antimicrobial resistance genes and mutation quinolone resistance-determining regions (QRDR) fecal E. coli . Calves developing BRD were randomly enrolled one three groups receiving: (1) (ENR; n = 22); (2) (TUL; 24); (3) no treatment (CTL; 21). Fecal samples collected enrollment 7, 28, 56 days after beginning treatment,...
